Obituary of Kenneth Chaffey

Chaffey, Kenneth Lee-

With heavy hearts, we announce that Kenneth Chaffey, long time West Saint Johner, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with his family surrounding him, on November 10, 2023. Born March 4, 1954, in Eastport, Maine, he was a son of the late Graham Victor Chaffey and Virginia (Newman) Lord.

Kenneth was a hardworking Mason, who worked on various large projects, including the Confederation Bridge and placing the last two pieces in the beaver fountain at Saint John’s Loyalist Burial Ground. He took great pride in his accomplishments and was dedicated and respected in his profession. He was smart and artistic, and could play anything at all on his guitar. He could often be found walking the Harbour Passage, talking to everyone along the way. He loved his Blue Jays, and had to be home to watch The View, always making sure he didn’t miss the beginning of the show, which he always said was the best part. Grampy had a special relationship with Hailee, aka Heidi or Helen, and would often find excuses (as if he needed one) to pick her up and go for a walk or a drive, just to spend time together.

Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Tracy Chaffey and Diamond Jewѐl Chaffey; grandchildren: Tylor, Isaiah, Hailee, Jayden, Twyla, Ariana, and Aubrey; great-grandchildren: Austyn, Avery, Everett, Emersyn, and Amelia; siblings: Christine Dow (John), Elmina Richardson (the late Harvey), Keith Chaffey (Esther), Elizabeth Chaffey, Joyce Wilcox (John Giver), Ann Lossing (Darcy), and Lola Lord; and closest friends: Albert Perry, Hank Perry, Joe Perry, and Mayford Lomax; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Kenneth’s friend and doctor, Joseph Tracy, the staff and nurses of 5AN, and Barb for their friendship, countless hours of care, and their compassion. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). In keeping with Kenneth’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com.
