Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Fleiger
It is with profound sadness that the family of Elizabeth Ann Fleiger announces her passing at home on December 3, 2023.
Elizabeth (Liz, Yibby, Yib) was born in Saint John on August 5, 1948 to Frank and Evalyn Fleiger. Her immediate family includes her loving son Ryan Weall-Fleiger and grandsons, Weston Crocket and Kamden Weall-Fleiger. Also mourning her passing are brothers David Fleiger (Andrea Dosne) and John Fleiger (Judy), and sisters Carolyn Evans, Kathy Fleiger, Helen Dickie (Don), Dawn MacLachlan (Pat), Arlene Gaimari (Chuck), Jane Southworth (John), Joan Sparkes (Vern), Suzanne Seyforth (David), as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Evalyn (Robb) and brother Pat.
After graduating from Saint John Vocational School, Elizabeth continued to develop her love of Home Economics at home, while training and working as a Dental Assistant. After studying Business at the New Brunswick Community College, she worked in various retail positions, including owning and managing her own quilt shop in Saint John.
Elizabeth’s strong sense of community mindedness was evident in her leadership in Girl Guides, her volunteerism at Saint John the Baptist School, her involvement with the South End Housing Coop, and the St. Mary’s and St. Bartholomew’s Saturday Supper Ministry. Her strong faith led to her active participation at Saint John the Baptist Church, and to the Sisters of Charity study groups, where she achieved the position of Associate. At her residence in the Admiral Beatty Housing Complex, she extended kindness to any neighbours in need, and, as a Tenants’ Association member, involved herself in games nights, group breakfasts, as well as fund raising and entertainment events. With her gifted green thumb, Elizabeth set out beautiful seasonal planters to greet visitors at the complex, while also planting and tending to vegetable containers behind the complex.
Family was at the centre of Elizabeth’s life. She gladly gave her time and care to any family member, frequently travelled to pitch in with her siblings’ projects, and extended great effort to give each sister and brother a handmade quilt or quilted wall hanging. Above all, Elizabeth cherished her son and grandsons, constantly honouring their presence with small gifts and thoughtful words and actions.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Luan Le and Dr. Douglas Keeling for their consistent kindness and care of Elizabeth. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to remember Elizabeth on December 12, 2023 at a 12 noon Mass at Stella Maris Church, 201 Bayside Drive, Saint John, followed by a reception in the Social Room at the Admiral Beatty Complex, 14 King Square S. Donations in her memory may be made to Saint John Outflow or your local food bank. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
