Obituary of Barbara Ann Chenier
With heavy hearts, the family of Barbara “Barb” Ann (Whelpley) Chenier, loving wife of Albert “Abby” Chenier, announce her passing on Wednesday, December 20th, 2023 at Bobby's Hospice surrounded by her loving family & friends. Barb was born in Saint John on February 11th, 1945, daughter of the late James and Julia (Bernard) Whelpley.
Barb was educated in Saint John and in her early years she attended Latimore Lake School and went on to graduate from Simonds High School. After graduation, Barb and Abby started their family together raising three children. Barb was later employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia and her career there spanned for over 20 years.
In their retirement years, Barb and Abby enjoyed many summers in Tignish, PEI and their winters in Doral Village, Clearwater, Florida meeting up with many dear friends every year in both places. Barb loved to be around people and she enjoyed entertaining them with good food, fun and music. She was an avid crib player and one of the best thrift store shoppers, especially for other people! Barb was an easy woman to love and she made everyone feel like you were her best friend.
She is survived by her husband, Abby; children: Kim, Burlington, Ontario and Todd; her grandchildren: Jordyn and Tyler (Sima), Burlington, Ontario; and her precious great-grandchildren, Brandt and Braelyn. She is also survived by her brothers: Jim (Gail) and Gerry Whelpley; and her former daughter-in-law, Joanne Albert; and former son-in-law, Alex Walsh.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her youngest son, Bradley, in 2000 and her younger siblings, Jane and Bobby Whelpley.
Barb will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends from near and far.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to all who cared for Barb while at home, or in the hospital and especially to the caring staff at Bobby's Hospice during final days. Thank you to the many who called, sent cards and travelled to visit and comfort her.
