Mrs. McKinney was my fifth grade teacher. I am lucky enough to have been taught by a few amazing teachers over the course of my education, but Mrs. McKinney was the first and I never forgot how much she encouraged me to lean into my love of learning and books without shame. I was extremely shy and she helped me to come out of my shell. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to learn from her.

My sincere condolences to Mark and Ellen on the passing of their mother, Janet. I had the pleasure of teaching with Janet at Glen Falls School during her last year as a Grade 5 teacher. Janet was AMAZING! Everyday I'd come to school, and Janet would be bubbling with enthusiasm on what we'd be teaching the children that day....picking dandelion roots to grind into coffee, sewing a quilt with died cotton, making soap, dipping candles, taffy pulling, sewing large strips of birchbark into a wigwam outside the principals office, stuffing life-sized Halloween figures....the list was endless! Janet was my mentor...and her creative, kind, JOYFUL spirit deeply impacted her students and fellow teachers to embrace hands on, life long learning.
Together Janet and Linda Dodge were awarded the Hilroy Award for excellence in teaching when they created "Loyalist Living" program which enabled their students to experience pioneer life culminating in "A Day in the Life of a Loyalist" which drew bus loads of students, the mayor and other guests from around the Saint John area to take part in. Janet made learning FUN and accessible to all her students!
I am deeply grateful for her friendship, mentorship and guidance xoxo

I am saddened to learn of Mrs McKinney's passing. All these years later she is still one of my favorite teacher's. So many wonderful memories from Loyalist Days to exchanging emails with her daughter Ellen as a penpal. My sincerest condolences to her family.

My husband David’s sister. Gentle and supportive sister in law. Always in awe of Janet’s talents. Artist, teacher, quilter, crochet, knit, cook, write, bricklaying YES, proud Mom, supportive wife, sister, daughter, Mom, coworker and friend. She had it all! We worked together on her infamous Peacock Stories & Recipe Book. Parkinson’s delivered such a brutal blow at a young age, but she dealt with it with such class. May heaven reward you Janet - you more than earned it. Marie/David

Fond memories of Mrs McKinney during my elementary school days at Glen Falls school. She chose me as town crier, not once, but twice for the living Loyalist display. My sincerest condolences to her family during this difficult time.

Our condolences to you all.
We have a lovely watercolour of St. Barnabus Church painted by Janet, framed and on our living room wall.
We also have a couple of small wildflower watercolours.
She was so generous.
She also wrote the Peacock family cookbook, a labour of love.
Janet was a lovely gentle soul.
She will be missed but forever loved.
Sincerely, Eric Bowen and Sandy Davis
