Obituary of Marcella A Osborne
It is with heavy hearts the family of Marcella Osborne (nee Beale) announces her passing on December 26th, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital hand in hand with her daughter and son-in-law. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the SJRH who touched our hearts in her short stay there. Your compassionate care and respect for honoring her final wishes will forever bring us peace.
Marcella is survived by her beloved daughter Sherry Dumont (McBride) and “the best son-in-law” Roger Dumont who blessed her with her slave drivers AKA her precious granddaughters Karlee Dumont (Will Stack) and Mia Dumont; and her bonus gifts of joy, her great-grandchildren Aria and William Stack; along with her favorite nieces and nephews (you know who you are) and their families.
Born in Grand Manan to Ray and Margaret (Shannon) Beale in 1940, Marcella lived most of her life in Saint John. She graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy in 1958 with honors as a secretary. She worked in insurance for the early part of her career but retired as a Sky 3 Secretary from Corrections Canada at the age of 55 after many years of service.
In 2002 the country Dumont’s house was raised to make an apartment for her to move in from the city. She always said, “Wherever Sherry goes, I’ll be right there with her”. To know Marcella is to know her daughter. Her grandchildren were blessed to have a live-in Mammy for hugs, emotional support, sounding board, magic toast, and the 24/7 Mammy store. She practiced her strong faith as a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Chapel Grove on the Kingston Peninsula.
Marcella will be joining those pre-deceased: her parents Roy and Margaret Beale (Shannon); the love of her life/husband Joseph Osborne; father to her daughter, and lifelong friend Ed Jones (Florence); brothers/protectors Roy Beale, Douglas Beale; sister/soulmate Sandra Cormier; and friend Laurie Dumont.
Marcella was a force to be reckoned with, stubborn as a mule making no apologies for being set in her ways. She was also the sweetest, most kind, and funny woman. Whether you were family or friend she would always have your back. A vault to keep our secrets in, and a great person to turn to when you were seeking wisdom. And even when you weren’t seeking advice… she would give it to you anyway.
Marcella is moving onto her next adventure with no regrets. Lived life to the very end the way she wanted, filled our hearts with unconditional love, and modeled an accepting generous spirit. She celebrated her Mother’s 100th birthday. She was with her siblings through thick and thin. She watched her nieces & nephews grow up to raise families of their own. And not to go without mentioning her greatest accomplishment and pride, her daughter Sherry.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). Visitation will be held on January 13, 2024, at Brenan’s Funeral Home from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM with the funeral service to follow in Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery (327 Westmorland Rd, Saint John) immediately following the funeral service.
To honour Marcella’s generous spirit, the family requests that you perform an act of kindness for others around you. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.brenansfh.com.
