Obituary of Roberta Jean Mott
Roberta Jean Mott passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at her residence in Shannex- Tucker Hall. Born in Saint John on April 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Mary (Lamb) Baxter, and wife of the late Lester W. Mott.
Roberta graduated from Saint John High School in 1947. After graduating, she worked in the insurance business and at Clark’s car dealership. She then went to work for the company started by her father, Baxter Food Ltd., where she was the Secretary/Treasurer and Director, and later on Owner, with her brother Malcolm. She and her brother then went on to start Coast Tire and Auto Service (formerly Kelly Tire), as well as Bercon Ltd., Braxco Ltd., and BMC Ltd. She was a proud member of Thistle St. Andrew’s Curling Club for many years, achieving three 8-enders. One of her favourite pastimes was travelling and spending the winter in Florida with her family. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the Portland United Church choir.
Above all, Roberta loved her family, and spending time with them. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Roberta is survived by her son, Gary Mott (Lana); grandchildren: Andrew Mott (Emma) and Angela Mott Cheeseman (Tanner); sisters-in-law: Jean Mott, Olga Mott, and Bernice Wilson; Marg Murray; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents and her beloved husband of 64 years, Lester Mott, Roberta was predeceased by her brother, Malcolm Baxter (Kathryn); brothers-in-law: Orland Mott, Clifford Mott, and Beacher Wilson; nieces, Wendy Baxter and Cherry Mott; and her special cousin, Charlie Murray.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Lily Court for their care and compassion, along with a very special group of caregivers who were with her throughout her journey. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
