Obituary of Joy O'Brien

It is with great sadness, but in appreciation for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Joy O’Brien at her residence in Rocmaura Nursing Home’s Trinity Court on February 24, 2024. Born in Saint John on December 11, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Linda (Brown) Fynn, and wife of the late Michael O’Brien.

Besides her parents and husband, Joy was predeceased by her brothers Fred and Ken Fynn, and sister Mary Galbraith.

Joy is survived by her sons Michael (Jennifer) and James; grandsons Patrick and Daniel; brothers and sisters Jack Fynn, Calvin Fynn (Trish), Cathy Fynn, Glenn Fynn (Donna), and Elizabeth Durant (Trevor); as well as nine nieces and nephews, who thought the world of her.

She loved nature and walking, travel and exploring, gardening, gathering sea glass, swimming and scuba diving and anything else that can be done in, around or on the water.

Joy was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who absolutely adored her grandsons. She led by example living her life with integrity, honesty, kindness, and grace. She set a high moral standard,

fearless in speaking her truth and defending others, especially her family to whom she gave unwavering support and unconditional love. She placed her family firmly in the centre of her life, throughout her life. She was the glue and guiding force that held us all together. Joy’s character is reflected by the number of people who loved, respected, and admired her. She touched many lives with her intelligence and wisdom, her generosity, her ready smile, and her great laugh. Joy was eager to meet new people and go on adventures. She was up for anything and being with her made everything better.

We will miss Joy’s vivaciousness, her presence, and her ability to make each one of us feel extraordinary.
