Obituary of Agnes Dollin Furay
It is with a sense of sadness and loss, we share the peaceful passing of our dear Aunt Agnes Furay on December 15, 2023, at the age of 96. Agnes was born and lived her whole life in Saint John. While her adult life was mostly spent living on ‘The Avenue’, Agnes’ final years saw her loved and cared for by the very capable team at the Dobbelsteyn Care Home.
Agnes enjoyed a lengthy and successful career with Henry Birks and Sons, here in Saint John. While fulfilling many roles, she would most often be found in the watch department. There would be few Saint John residents shopping for a time piece, who would not have come across Agnes in their deliberations. Over the years, Agnes has received many accolades from Birks, for her diligent and dedicated service. She was proud to serve the Birks family.
Agnes was a lifetime member of St. Andrew & St. David United Church. She enjoyed knitting, winding her many clocks and walking her Boston Terriers, all who were named Honey, as far as her extended family can recall. We were all recipients of she and her sister and best friend Marion’s, knitting projects; the boys with socks, and the girls with sweaters.
Agnes was pre-deceased by her mother Agnes, father James, sister Marion, sister Jean MacPherson and brother-in-law Wallace MacPherson. Her passing will be keenly felt by her most caring and best friend, Sadie Bland. Agnes is survived by three nieces Marion Stairs (Robert), Susan Hawkes (David), both of Halifax and Elizabeth Pickrem of Oldsmar, Florida and 6 grand nieces and nephews, stretching from Texas to Nova Scotia.
Her family will be forever grateful to Paula Dobbelsteyn and the caring staff at the Dobbelsteyn Care Home. The love and attention shown to Agnes made her life more full and meaningful, during these past few years. The Dobbelsteyn team were her family, too.
A memorial service will be held for Agnes on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 PM at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. Andrew & St. David United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
