Dear Murray, My deepest sympathies to you and your family on the sudden passing of your beloved Nita. As one of Nita's skating friends, I was shocked and saddened to hear the news. She had such a warm and welcoming presence and took an interest in all of us. I'm particularly thankful for the personal friendship we developed over the last few years. We often would take our conversations from the rink to a local coffee shop. I was inspired by Nita's love of life and her many talents and interests - not only skating, but singing, gardening, sewing, making homemade preserves, volunteering and her deep love of history. No wonder our conversations were so interesting and I left feeling that I had learned something new. I remember one rainy morning, Nita walked into the dressing room at the rink with the most practical, yet beautiful, rain coat; just the kind I had been looking for. When I asked where she had bought it, her answer was, "I made it". I shouldn't have been surprised! Nita, I miss you and will treasure the many many happy moments we shared!!

It was Nita that persuaded me to start singing again and join the Carleton Choristers, to which she I am eternally grateful. I know your hearts are broken and your lives turned inside out. I met Nita a few times when I was Jay's teacher many years ago. She came to join us for special reading days and events with the children and her love and pride for Jay and Ava was written all over her face. She was warm, kind and made the time with her grandchildren so very special. She was a lovely woman.
My sincerest sympathies on your tremendous loss. May the joy and delight of the mountain of memories I know you'll have, rapidly overcome the grief you are feeling.

My heart is so heavy having learned of Nita's passing. "Oh my goodness!" as I said in the KVHS production of Annie, musically directed by Murray in 1984, the year I was blessed to meet the Driscoll Family as a young child...
Dearest Nita,
It was a privilege to be your next door neighbour during my most formative years. I always looked up to you and learned from you. I loved your gardens - and your cooking! You were the first person to come to our family's home when our father passed away last August, complete with a delicious homemade meal for my brother and me. I'm grateful we had that day and subsequent chats since then to share memories of Model Farm Road, our road trip to New Hampshire and stories of my Dad and Murray's music and teaching charades. (And thank you for taking me to school on more than one occasion when I missed the bus!) I loved that you took the time to visit me when I was a 20-something year-old working in "The Big Smoke"/Toronto at Steam Whistle Brewing while Murray was at a convention. You were always the hippest, coolest person and I promise to replicate your kindness and sense of adventure throughout my own life and travels.
My parents, brother and I adored you. You are a gem.
Dear Murray, Claire and Steven:
I pray you will find peace during this unexpectedly difficult time. I like to think that my parents - And Sweet Corgi Bess! - Were part of Nita's "Welcoming Committee" to Heaven's Gates. She is now a member of the most glorious choir of angels! I believe she and my Mom will have a wondrous spring and summer gardening in the most stunning spaces fathomable.
Sending love and virtual hugs. XO
