Obituary of Charles Richard Gabriel
With heavy hearts, the family of Chuck Gabriel of Willow Grove, beloved husband of Patricia “Pat” (MacMackin) Gabriel, announces his passing on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born March 18, 1939, in Saint John, he was a son of the late Mary (Tobias) and Charles Gabriel.
Chuck had many activities that kept him busy. He was President of the Air Force Association 250 Wing for 15 years where he also participated in the Poppy Campaigns, Sergeant of Arms for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53, a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus 11201 Council, RUSI-NB, Sponsoring Committee for 161 Air Cadets, Service Veterans Group, and was instrumental in fundraising for the Pennfield Monument for RCAF 250 Wing being dedicated on June 7, 2024.
He was also involved in his regular hobbies of gardening, 4-wheeling, carving airplanes, building model trains, and fishing.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Pat, Chuck is survived by his son, Christopher (Tabatha); grandchildren, Kyle and Gage; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides his parents, Chuck was predeceased by his brother, Joseph; and sisters: Muriel Tobias, Laurine Wisted, and Constance Marino.
The family would like to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Emergency Department and Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital for your care and compassion. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424, where visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Legion Tribute service will be held during the visitation at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road, at 11 am on Friday, May 10, 2024, with a reception to follow in the HOPE Centre. Those unable to attend will be able to view the Livestream of the service by visiting the obituary on Brenan’s website at www.BrenansFH.com.
