Obituary of Karen Louise McGaghey
It is with great sadness that we share in the passing of Karen Louise (Betts) McGaghey. Karen was born the youngest of seven children to her loving and devoted parents, Herbert and Muriel Betts on July 16, 1955.
Karen’s love of God, her family and friends was beyond compare. She enjoyed cooking and baking and whomever had the pleasure of experiencing her fabulous treats would echo our sentiments.
Her love of family and friends will endure forever and she leaves behind her loving and devoted husband (two months shy of their 49th wedding anniversary), Danny; three beautiful daughters, Shannon (Clark), Rachel (Larry) and Rebecca (Russell); five grandchildren, Hayley (Mike), Jordan (Sam), Hannah, Jagger and Lily; sisters, Carol (Gary) and Linda (Blair) and brothers, Don and Jim (Charlene).
To her nieces and nephews, know that you were loved and close at heart. She so enjoyed the outpouring of love you share for your children, her great-nieces and nephews.
To David Kingston and Nadine, she shared in your love and union.
To her sisters-in-law, Elaine (Bob), Linda (Dave), Cathy (Curtis), Donna, Nancy and Cindy and to her brother-in-law, Harry (Keith), she loved you all and felt your love for her in return.
Although Karen had many friends throughout her life, she cherished her friendship with Margo Martin (her sister from another mother) in hopes she would always be remembered for her love.
After family and friends had gathered and Karen got to share in final moments of love, laughter and memories, she reached to Danny and said, “It’s time to go. I’m ready to go.” As he gently held her and shared that last kiss, he said, “Wait for that gentle whisper of God calling you home, then go in peace and love.”
Karen will be deeply missed but her spirit and memories will remain with us all, always. Walk in the light, be the light.
In addition to her loving parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Eileen and brother-in-law, Bob Lindsay; sister, Katherine Kingston; sisters-in-law, Carol (Don) Betts and Gail McGaghey and brother-in-law, John McGaghey.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
