Obituary of Frank Douglas White
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” With heartfelt sorrow, the family of Frank Douglas White announce his passing on Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Throughout Frank’s final days, he was surrounded by his family. Frank leaves behind his loving sweetheart and wife of nearly 52 years, Juanita (Little) White.
Frank was born in Saint John, NB on June 8th, 1946, the son of the late Thomas and Ivy (James) White. Growing up in Rockwood Court, Frank enjoyed his childhood participating on many East End minor sporting teams playing baseball, hockey and speed skating all while learning the value of a strong work ethic by working in his parents’ local store. Frank attended St. Malachy’s Memorial School when it was an all boys’ catholic school where he enjoyed playing hockey for The Saints. Frank also participated in local Air Cadets during his youth.
Frank furthered his education at St. Thomas University obtaining his B.A. and ultimately his B. Ed.. He enjoyed those years playing soccer and hockey for STU and prided himself on being named MVP for soccer. During this time, Frank developed a love for skydiving which led him to become an accomplished skydiver with 206 jumps. He also served as Area Safety Officer for NB. To pay his way through university, Frank worked as a mail boy at the Golden Ball and it was there that he met Juanita, the love of his life. They began their courtship in 1966 and were married July 8th, 1972.
In 1970, Frank began his rich 35 year-long teaching career. He taught in District 6 Schools in the Rothesay area and particularly enjoyed being vice-principal of Rothesay Elementary and principal of Kennebecasis Park School and finally finishing his career as principal of Rothesay Park School. Frank was a well-known and respected educator and enjoyed his career immensely. He particularly recalled with fondness having a ping pong table in his grade 6 classroom and enjoyed interacting with his students. Throughout his career, Frank also was an elected trustee on the District 20/8 School Board for many years including serving as Chairman of the Board during his final term.
Along with his dedication to his career, Frank volunteered his time as a vestry member for the Mission Church, served as a trustee and participated in Synod. He also accompanied Juanita in singing with the Grand Bay Folk Group where they helped spread joy to others.
Above all else, Frank was a family man and loved his family with all his heart. He was a most loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather and was always so excited to hear and share news of his children and grandchildren. Along with being lovingly remembered by his wife, Juanita, Frank is survived by his children Capt. Christopher White (Christine Carey) of Guelph, ON and Dr. Robyn Ramsay (Andrew) of Tyne Valley, PE. Frank is dearly beloved “Grampy” to Isaac and Elliott Ramsay and Quinn White. He is also survived by his brother Tom White (Heather) of Quispamsis and brother-in-law Joseph Little (Marilyn Hughes) of Saint John as well as several special nephews and nieces. Frank was pre-deceased by his parents, sister-in-law Ann Wallace and brothers-in-law William Wallace and Thomas Little.
In his later years, Frank enjoyed golfing, playing cards and cheering on his Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Blue Jays. But he enjoyed most of all spending time with his family playing games and watching his grandsons play the same sports he loved so much in his youth.
Frank endured a long and very courageous battle with cancer, therefore in lieu of flowers, his family is requesting donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the St. John Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clement Church Fund.
Frank’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care and Oncology Departments at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their kindness and compassion throughout his care.
The funeral service is to be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 4 Church Ave, Rothesay, NB on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at 10:30am with reception to follow at the church hall. There will be no separate visitation. Interment at Fernhill Cemetery with graveside prayers directly following the reception.
