Obituary of Frances Ogden (O'Leary)
Fran Ogden passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024. A native of Saint John, Fran was born on January 8, 1933, the daughter of Thomas Edmund O’Leary – a lawyer in the region – and Bessie Clotilda Smith. She is survived by her brother Tom O’Leary of Charlottetown P.E.I. Fran attended Saint Vincent’s High School and went on to Saint John Vocational School. Fran married Paul Ogden in Saint John and they were married for 58 years before his passing in 2014. She worked as a legal secretary until her children arrived and devoted her life to caring for her mother and raising her children.
Fran was a loving woman, full of grace and dignity. She was devoted to her family and displayed quiet pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren: college and university graduations, and sporting events of baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball, water polo, marathon races and swim meets. She spent her retirement years traveling to California with Paul to visit her California grandchildren and enjoying her family in New Brunswick. She was one of the remaining members of the Bridge Ladies club of Forest Hills, and in her younger years was a swimmer and enjoyed being in a bowling league with Paul.
Fran’s legacy is her three children: Mark (Lisa), Ellen (Will Martin) and Gary (Andrea) as well as her beloved grandchildren: Eric and Mitchell Ogden, Avery and Thomas Martin and her namesake and youngest grandchild Anna Ogden.
Fran is at peace and was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
