Obituary of Brian Leonard Merzetti *Updated*

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Brian Leonard Merzetti in his 62nd year, on June 10, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born May 7, 1962, in Saint John, NB, to the late Donald Joseph and Mary Eileen (Darrah) Merzetti.

He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Don Merzetti (Michelle), Doug Merzetti (Bonnie), Nancy Hickey (the late John) all of Saint John, NB, Kevin Merzetti (Jacqui) of Victoria, BC, Dan Merzetti (Sherri) of Halifax, NS and Beth Merzetti (Dave) of Saint-Lazare, QC; previous wife, Vivian Medford of NS and his daughter, Lynzie; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

After graduating from St. Malachy’s High School in 1982, Brian pursued his love of music and woodworking.  After a lifetime of learning he loved to be able to pass on his knowledge gained to anyone interested.

Even during his early years, music was always a part of Brian’s life through his family and friends.  He grew up in Saint John and often worked behind the scenes for other musicians helping them to get on stage.

As a tradesman, Brian became proficient in hardwood flooring installation and restoration.  He perfected his skills working in Calgary for a number of years and later brought them back to Saint John where he joined his brothers working in their businesses.

Surrounded by his family and friends at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Brian passed peacefully from this world to his heavenly world that he had cherished so much.  The world of God and of his mom and dad, whom he had lost many years earlier.

Additionally, Brian's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the 5N North Wing of the Saint John Regional Hospital for there expertise and outstanding care provided to Brian during his brief final hours.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), there will be a visitation from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm followed immediately by a ceremony in Brenan's Chapel. Following the service, interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, which will be followed by a brief reception (1 hour) held in Brenan’s Reception Centre. A Celebration of Brian’s Life will continue at his sister’s home, 15 Bradley Lane on the Kingston Peninsula, after the reception at Brenan's.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Blood Services in support of the blood drive in memory of his brother-in-law, John Hickey.
