Obituary of Matthew Joseph Levesque

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Matthew Joseph Levesque (56). Beloved son of Sheila Katherine (LeClair) and Gerald Ovila Levesque, devoted brother to Michael (Stephanie), Mary Snow (Jeff), Mark (Andrea) and Patrick (Tina), wonderful uncle to Samantha, Danielle, Allie, Katie, Shawna, Mitchell, Megan, Ben, and Sarah.

Matthew often spoke of some of his favorite childhood memories; camping with his family at Rogers Campground; visiting Santa’s Village and Six-Gun City, as well as going fishing with his father at Beaver Lake.  Growing up on Coburg Street, he attended St. Joseph’s Elementary/Junior High School where he met many lifelong friends.  He continued on to St. Malachy’s Memorial High making new friends and graduating in 1986.

In his earlier years, Matthew was a competitive handball player and won many tournaments, he also had a love for running, hockey and biking.  No one was a bigger fan of the Toronto Maples Leafs than Matthew, through the good and bad seasons.  He had a tremendous love for animals, especially dogs, following the passing of his sweet pup Mandy, Matthew was looking forward to having time to volunteer with the SPCA prior to his illness.

Matthew was the most kind and gentle person, always willing to lend to hand to anyone who asked, no matter the task.  Matthew gave of himself to many and did it graciously and quietly, acts of kindness which he never spoke about to anyone.  Matthew gave food to the needy, money to the poor, among other things, and never once looked for acknowledgment, he did it because that was just who he was.  He will be greatly missed. It was his friends and family who were blessed to have had the opportunity to have Matthew in their life.

Matthew was predeceased by his father Gerald and mother Sheila.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shannex (Cohen Hall) for their care and support of Matthew. A sincere thank you to his dear lifelong friend Sean Lacelle, who was continually there for Matthew and never left his side throughout his illness.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424).
