Obituary of Anne Marie MacDougall
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister and aunt, Anne on August 21st, 2024. Anne Marie MacDougall, of Fredericton, NB, was born on January 19, 1955, and grew up on Queen Square in the south end of Saint John. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and attended St. John the Baptist School, Saint Vincent's High School, and St. Thomas University.
Upon completion of her studies, Anne accepted a position with Service New Brunswick until her retirement. It was not unheard of, for friends and family, to receive an occasional birthday card along with their license renewal.
Anne, the 9th of 13 siblings, was considered everyone's favourite. Her sweet and kind nature endeared her to all. When Anne contracted cancer four years ago, she literally had an army of family at her beck and call, and she remarked that one positive result of her illness was learning just how much she was loved.
Although Anne was an all-around athlete, her passion was running. Along with our aunt Gertrude Mooney, she entered many marathons and could be seen jogging the trails of Fredericton on her daily runs.
Anne was a well-known Fredericton figure, whether you knew her from her workplace, running, her time at the YMCA, or her devotion to St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church. She always shared a big smile and a hug (especially if you did not like hugs).
As she journeyed through her illness with courage and faith, she offered up her suffering for others, until her death.
Anne is survived by her sisters: Jane Waldron (Harley Kieran), Mary Morrison, Eileen MacDougall, Elizabeth Phillips (Brian), Martha Desmond (Pat); brothers: Robert (Carol Ann), Jack (Marlene), Allan and Colin (Jenny) MacDougall; aunts: Evelyn (Mooney) Morris (late Denis) and Rosamond Mooney (late John); along with the Moore, Morris, Marr, Francis and Dundon cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen (Mooney) MacDougall; brothers, Joseph (Margaret Simon) and John Paul MacDougall; sister, Suzanne Cuttle (Jim); niece, Heather Maines; nephews, Stephen MacDougall and Christopher Waldron; great-nephew, Harvey Dryden; cousin, Leslie Bruce. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention.
We are grateful for the kindness and dedication of the medical staff at both the DEC and the SJR hospitals.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Divine Mercy Catholic School and the Cathedral Restoration Fund would honour Anne's memory.
