The last time I saw Doug was here in Sarasota many years ago. At the time he and Susan were such great company. Doug loved my girls and he always had some stories for them, they thought he was such fun. We always joked about whether his dance card was full, I am sure he is dancing in Heaven. Sad to see him go.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Doug Shippee's passing. Although I never had the honor of meeting him personally, his remarkable contributions to conservation and the community have left an enduring legacy.
His generosity in donating land for the Bear Cave Nature Reserve is a testament to his commitment to preserving the natural world for future generations.
On behalf of the whole Nature Conservancy of Canada team, please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. My thoughts are with you, and I hope you find comfort in the cherished memories of Doug and the positive impact he made.
With deepest sympathy,
Françoise Roy

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our dear neighbor and cherished friend, Doug Shippe. Our bond with Doug grew in the most special way, through our beloved German shepherd, Mandy, who found her second home by Doug’s side, spending her days exploring with him. On warm summer days, it became a familiar sight to see Doug’s Jeep parked with the back window open, Mandy waiting patiently in the back. Of course, when patience ran thin, Mandy took matters into her own paws, once venturing into Canadian Tire to track him down.
Mandy adored Doug, and their connection was undeniable. Most afternoons, she could be found lying on his front lawn on Westmount, loyally waiting for him to return from the office, ever his faithful companion. Doug’s kindness, warmth, and love for her reflected the beautiful, caring soul he was to everyone lucky enough to know him.
Doug will be deeply missed, not only by us but by all whose lives he touched. His memory will forever be a part of our hearts. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Major Doug Shippee was a good friend of my parents, Col. Bruce (d 2023 age 104) and Evelyn Anderson (d 2019 age 97). They lived in Fredericton from 1963 until 1989 when Bruce retired from the RNBR and they moved to Shediac. I remember they enjoyed Doug's company at numerous military events as well as staying as a guest at the Clipper Shippee Inn in Pocologan NB. I stayed at the Inn myself on several occasions in the early 1970's while racing cars at the former Pennfield track. This is when I met Doug in person. A great guy and a real gentleman.
As fate would have it, I read his obituary in the Telegraph while in Saint Andrews on Sunday last so we dropped by the Inn on our way back to Moncton. It seems to have added more rooms but the restaurant is gone and the new owner did not know Doug but still a great view from the deck. I am sure Doug's spirit and those of his guests will linger still for an occasional "happy hour"!! Rest in Peace Doug.

I was shocked to see this obit. I met Doug when he started in the insurance business and he was a most enjoyable to have around. He never had an unkind word about anyone. A prime example of how we should treat others. I feel blessed to have known him. Ken Cochrane, former insurance company field man .

Doug was my second cousin, on my father’s side.
I recall being asked by him to be his holiday bartender at a Christmas function he hosted annually at his residence in Brentwood. My attire was not to his liking and he quickly gathered suitable clothing from his closet. Always a load of laughs when he was around.
I recall always being in awe of his latest boat. He would arrive on the Washademoak Lake to visit family periodically. One visit he graciously suggested my father and I waterski behind his double decker cruiser, and we found the wake depth was so big, we stayed behind the boat for the entire ride.
Fond memories of a great guy.

What I remember most about Doug is his zest for life and the immense love he had for his wife Gail.
I will always hear his laughter and see the sparkle he had for fun and adventure.
Doug showed his pure his heart was measured by how much he loved animals. From the time we served together as board members with the (Animal Rescue League) Saint John SPCA we formed a lasting friendship.
I don't even know where to begin to express my gratitude for having known Doug and the gift he gave me; his mentorship. He shared his wisdom, encouragement, and business acumen by tapping into his own personal experience.
He would say, "just keep your work life and personal life balanced out and never stop having fun." He proved time and time again that laughter was the secret to a long and healthy life!
He told me to make the dash matter (between birth & passing) and to live every moment to the fullest just like he did.
Lessons for life and for me to share with others.
We feel your sadness and loss Gail but know that Doug has made his journey "home" and will be forever flying in his "balloon."

Doug was a remarkable man in so many ways. His indomitable spirit and positive outlook shone through, as bright as the sunshine he so enjoyed in Sarasota! That is where I first met Doug, a fellow Canadian and a long time, dear friend and neighbor of our family, who shared their love of the beach on Siesta Key. Everyone loved Doug! Fun times abounded when "Shippee" was in town!
Many years later, I was fortunate to visit St John NB and see Doug in his element, at his beautiful home. He loved showing us the beautiful deer and all the wonderful animals that visited his backyard. Doug was a good friend to many, including four legged creatures. RIP.
