Obituary of Barbara Jane McKenney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara McKenney on August 31, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born September 22, 1941, in Saint John, she was the beloved daughter of Eleanor (McAloney) and Tom Kennedy; granddaughter of Sadie and Ervine McAloney; also the niece of Sylvia McAloney and Blair McAloney, all of whom were responsible for her very happy childhood, all giving unconditional love and support throughout her life.

Barbara was a devoted partner to Bruce Paterson for 48 years. She is also survived by her much-loved children: daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” McKenney of Mississauga; son, Scott McKenney (Patricia “Paddy”) of Treasure Island, FL; her dearly loved brother, Blair Kennedy (Brigitte) of Muskoka; nephews, Thomas and Eric Kennedy; and several cousins.

Barbara spent most of her working years in the School District 20/8 Office, retiring in 2000. She spent winters in Palm Hill, Largo, FL with Bruce and many friends, also traveling and cruising with family and friends.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), where visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm in Brenan’s Reception Centre, followed by a Funeral Service at 1 pm in Brenan’s Chapel.
