Obituary of Bonny Jean Whelpley

It is with great sadness that the family of Bonny Whelpley of Saint John, loving partner and fiancé of John “Gary” Stevens, announce her passing which occurred on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born on August 19, 1959 in Saint John, she was a daughter of Shirley (Sherwood) Wallace and the late Clarence Whelpley.

Prior to retiring, Bonny was employed in the EVS department at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  This was a career that she truly enjoyed and where many special friendships were made.  Bonny enjoyed cooking and baking and spent 17 plus years working as a baker at Garden Street Irving.  Bonny also enjoyed crafting, colouring, listening to music, flower gardening and took great comfort being in the country…relaxing on her deck and watching the birds.  She was easygoing and most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and dear family.  She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her mother and fiancé, Bonny will lovingly remembered by her sons, Danny Whelpley and John “Aaron” Stevens; sisters, Brenda Wood (Ross), Wendy Sabean (Bill) and Carrie Elizabeth Whelpley; as well as nieces and nephews.  Besides her father, she was predeceased by her sister, Susan Marie Whelpley and brother, Ricky Whelpley.

Bonny’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of ICU at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the exceptional care that was provided to her.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation.  However, relatives and friends are welcome to attend the funeral service which will take place from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, remembrances made to NB Lung or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB would be appreciated by the family.
