I remember sitting in my car one very rainy, grey fall afternoon, in front of Harbour View High, waiting for my children. A scuffle broke out on the sidewalk and suddenly down the stairs came a very tall, slim figure, trench coattails flapping wildly in the wind. Like a great angel he descended on the pair and all was settled in seconds. I never forgot the image. I told Paul (Mr. Riley forever in my mind!) this story when we sat together on a church committee. He laughed heartily. The angel with trench coat wings!

To Mrs. Riley, Chris, & Patt-Lynn,
I am saddened to learn of Mr. Riley's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time in all of your lives. I have fond memories as a child hanging out with Matt with Nelson Street, particularly during Halloween and when Matt and I were playing as children growing up in the area. As a child, I was always blown away by how tall Mr. Riley was, traits which have been passed down to both Chris and Patt-Lynn. In my eyes, it was as if he was a gentle giant. How was it possible for someone to be this tall I often thought? It amazed me truly!
Paul was certainly one of the good ones and I have no doubt his absence will be felt amongst many not only in his inner circle but those whose lives he impacted as well. I found him to be a very genuine, considerate, and respectful individual in any interactions I had with him.
May God Bless to You All,
Aaron

Deepest condolences to the Riley family. I was one of the lucky few who got to have Mr Riley as my principal from grade 1 to high school graduation. Very intimidating at first for a kid in grade 1 from his height but soon became a friendly face.

Judy and family, what a beautiful obituary!
I was saddened to hear of Paul’s passing. Although I hadn’t seen Paul in a number of years, I still fondly remember our curling days, the committees we served on together and the occasional golf game. He was also quite adept at good-natured teasing. He could give as good or better than he got.
My condolences to his family. He was one of the good ones.

I will never forget Mr Riley as I started my career as one of the first Kindergarten Teachers to work at Saint Rose School. He was always positive and supportive. He was giving me a break from my class of 25 plus,4 and 5 year olds, and chose to read them a story. The kids were all sitting in a classroom corner ready as he pulled up a short wooden box( our chairs in the beginning) and sat down, it was so low that his long legs were crowded in and up to his shoulders. He was so kind and the kids loved him. Whenever they saw him in the hall or in yard they would run up and hug one of his legs. Thank you Paul.

“My deepest sympathy for your loss.”
Occasionally, a person comes into our lives who makes a powerful, positive difference.
Mr. Riley not only made a positive impact in my life but his belief in my abilities gave me the confidence to overcome many challenges and reach new heights. "He was someone who allowed you to see the hope inside yourself." He not only shared his knowledge, he shared kindness and compassion. His teachings will forever guide me. He made a positive impact in the lives of many.
Sending you strength today and peace in all the days ahead.
My heartfelt condolences for your loss. My thoughts are with you all.
