My earliest memory of uncle Frank was shortly after he and Lorraine wed. They drove the long distance from Saint John to our new home in Adrian, Michigan. My memory is clear as a bell as I see them pulling up in our driveway.. we were all agog with excitement eagerly awaiting their arrival. My first sight of Lorraine was of a beautifully clad young woman in a hat, gloves and handbag.. all matching a beautiful suit! I remember thinking my uncle was so handsome and young…
They came bearing gifts which were so well received we would await them every year thereafter with great expectation. Macintosh Toffees and Butterscotch Drops were such a wonderful treat every Christmas.
The distance between us being so far made for very few visits over the years but we always kept in good contact… especially my Dad, Jim (also known as Tim to their family).
Both Frank and my dad were avid hockey fans and I’m sure that topic along with cars brands spun some lively conversations! Dad:Ford, Frank:GMC.
After my dad died in 2011 I found great comfort in talking to Frank and picking his brain to answer all the questions I would have, and to fill in so much information as to the family history along with reminiscing about dad and past events and experiences in both our lives.
I learned very quickly that my uncle Frank was unbelievably intelligent. There seemed to be nothing we discussed that was unknown to him. I sought his advice on myriad topics and it was always sound.
Frank could tell really good stories! I so enjoyed hearing many funny situations he’d encountered throughout his firefighting career and many others. The thing that always stood out as much as his humor was his character. His values were highly principled. His love of his family was abundant along with great pride in Christie and Ritchie. He was a faithful friend to many;
ready to help in time of need.
I will miss him sorely.
My deepest condolences go to my dear cousins Christie and Ritchie, Frank’s pride and joy.
With Love, Judi

Dear Christie and Ritchie
So sorry to read of your father’s passing. It was a wonderful obituary. My maiden name is Morrow. I knew your Mom and Dad as they rented the flat in my parent’s house on Belleview Ave.(Elva & Trueman) I remember Frank going back and forth to work at the Fire Department. He truly was a gentleman. He also would have known Reyn’s father as Captain (Steve) MacKenzie in the Fire Department. Frank also played Hockey with my brother Don Morrow on the Sussex Junior Rangers Team. Please accept our condolences at this sad time.

Frank was a wonderful brother -in-law.When my husband, his brother, passed away in 2001, Frank called often to check on me to see if I needed anything. He will be missed by his daughter Christie and son Ritchie. We will all miss him but he will be reunited with Lorraine in Heaven.

I was saddened to learn of Frank's passing. I will miss our telephone conversations and visit when I return to Saint John. Frank and Lorraine alway welcomed my visits. Our connecton goes back to my infancy when my parents (Vina and the late Eldon Waddell) chose your parents to be my godparents. I recall my father always referring to Frank as Frankie. My husband could hardly believe the number of models Frank had on display. We proudly display one Frank gave us - an old car complete with a rumble seat.
May your memories be a comfort to you at this sad time.

I was sorry to read of Frank’s passing. His obituary was beautiful. Jogged so many memories of such a kind and gentle man, his devotion to his family and well of course, the dachshunds and the cars (louvers and all). Take care. Beth (Morris) Gaudet

My fond memories of Uncle Frank and Aunt Lorraine include an ever present dachshund; their pup always went wherever they went, long before it was the norm it is today. I remember some good-natured (?) arguments between Frank and Tim about Ford cars vs GM vehicles although I can't remember who was on which side!
Mostly I remember how much Frank reminded me of my dad after dad passed away; he had a way of letting you know that he cared without having to say a word.
So sorry for your loss ❤️

I am saddened to hear of Franks passing. Frank was a true Gentleman and a kind man, so caring and appreciative for any help given to him. I really got to know Frank when Lorraine was in the Saint Joseph’s Hospital and was my Moms room mate.
I watched how patient he was with Lorraine and how much he loved her.
We spoke often and he formed a relationship with my husband. He always said Glen was on the same page as him.
As time went Lorraine was moved to the Loch Lomond Village and it wasn’t long after that Mom moved there as well.
As fate would have it Moms ‘s room was directly across from Lorraine‘s so we continued to stay in touch.
Frank gifted my Dad with several of his absolutely beautiful trucks and excavator that my brothers have now.
I remember the day of Lorraine’s funeral. And how He was so pleased that we would bring Dad .
Frank often talked to my Dad as he was also in the Village.
Frank and my Dad were a lot alike amazing me.
I know the heartache losing your Dad. Again Christie and Riitcie accept my condolenc

Sending heartfelt condolences to Franks loved ones. I was his letter carrier for many years, and always enjoyed our chats. He was a true gentleman, and his skill at woodworking was simply fantastic. I expect that he, and Harold are having quite the time in heaven. Don Watson .

To Christie and Ritchie ; As well stated in your father's obituary he had a wealth of knowledge, in particular when it came to the past events of the Saint John Fire Department. His recollection of past events , the intentions of certain Collective Agreement language , etc was truly amazing . Frank was a very wise man and there is no question that past Fire Chief's Deputy Chief' s and District Chief would seek out the sound advice that Frank was more then willing to offer . The same can be said when he was the secretary of the Firefighters Union , Local #771. I'm certain that many of the advancements that the Saint John Fire Department enjoy today are in part through the many inputs and contributions that Frank Hughs made un be known to others . Frank served the Citizens of Saint John well . May he rest in peace .
