Obituary of Lorna Dorothy MacLaren
It is with love and gratitude that the family of Lorna Dorothy MacLaren announce her peaceful passing at the Turnbull Nursing Home on December 7, 2024.
Born in Elmsdale, Prince Edward Island on August 8, 1932, she was the daughter of the late George and Rosena (MacArthur) Hardy. She was also predeceased by her husband Victor MacLaren, brother Alton Hardy, and sister Mae Hurtabise.
Lorna will be forever missed by her four children: Wendy (John) Lockett, Shirley “Sam” (Martin) Cunningham, Faye (Kevin) Cooper, and Dr Vance MacLaren. As well as eight special grandchildren: Albert and Terry Lockett, Jenny, Fiona, and Gillian Cunningham, and Natalie, Douglas (Beth Anne), and Michael Cooper.
Our mom was a gifted seamstress who raised her family by her example to work hard, care for others, “get an education”, and “waste not want not”. Our mom’s greatest pride was in her children and her love of home. She will be remembered in her baking of bread, bannock, and cinnamon rolls, tending to her garden, and her love of many feline and canine companions. Mom loved her home but was always on the hunt for a new one and kept an eye on the next
“Open House” that would be a “great buy”. She had a love and talent for music and played her guitar and sang until recently at her final home at the Turnbull Nursing Home. In these past five years, she was peaceful and happy and always looking out to teach everyone to play her favourite game of Crokinole.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all at the Turnbull Home for the love and care of our mom. You all became her family and kept her safe. A special thank you to Linda Thom, and the late Suzanne MacFarlane RN. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). A funeral service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM with interment to follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
