Obituary of Doreen Ethel Peters-Zamora

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Ethel Peters-Zamora on December 7, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born September 27, 1933, in Barbados, to the late Donald Goldberg and Maude (Corliss) Alleyne.

Doreen was strongly encouraged to go to Canada to study nursing at the School of Nursing in 1958. It was through nursing that she met Jean Peters, who would later introduce her to her future husband, Melvyn. After Doreen and Melvyn were married in 1961, they immersed themselves in the church community, settling into the atmosphere of Crescent Valley Community Church. Under Pastors Warren and Ann Brothers, her devotion to God and her strong determination allowed her to serve her Lord and work to help people, well into her seventies. She was able to open a special care home, as her passion was to help others.

Doreen will be profoundly missed by her children; Kimberly Leek (William), Paul Peters (Tammy), siblings; Daphne Alleyne of England, Collin Alleyne of Montreal, grandchildren; Paula Kenmuir (Albert), Madison Maxan (Jeremy), William Leek (Bethany),  and Adam Naves (Gracie) of Alberta, Harrison Peters, Bryanna Vaughn (Ryan), Maria Leek,  and Julia Okocha (Victor) of Saint John, and great-grandchildren; Mateo, Talum, Reign, Zion, Mahlik, as well as many nieces and nephews around the world. Besides her parents, she’s predeceased by; her first husband Melvyn Peters, second husband Manuel Zamora, daughter, Patricia Rolanda Peters (Lanny), her sister, Audrey Alleyne, her brother, Herbert Alleyne, and her nephew, Charles Alleyne.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). Visitation will be held at Living Victory Church (101 Wilton Street, Saint John, NB) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with the Funeral Service to follow beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place in Hampon Rural Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in Doreen’s memory would be greatly appreciated by giving to the Living Victory Church Missions, a charity in which she held very close to her heart. Online condolences may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
