Obituary of E.R. Kent MacKay
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ernest Robert Kent MacKay announce his passing on December 6th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 84.
Born October 25th, 1940, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to the late George and Elda (McNabb) MacKay. He was predeceased by his brother Kirby (Jessie) MacKay.
Kent will be profoundly missed by his loving and caring wife of 57 years Jane, his children Greg (Becky), Jeff and Jill (Derek Bury) MacKay. His Grandchildren Benjamin, Cate and Laura MacKay, and several nieces and nephews. Nothing was more important to Kent than his Family.
Kent left home at a young age and began a lifelong career in retail. His career took him from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland then Ontario, finally settling down for good in Saint John.
Kent was an accomplished athlete and enjoyed sports throughout his life. From a Junior N.S Provincial Tennis Championship to the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League, Kent enjoyed competitive action. He played on the NB Provincial Tennis circuit well into his sixties and thrived. In his later years he cherished his Friday afternoon cribbage sessions with his close buddies.
Kent was a former board member of the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church and enjoyed various other volunteer activities as well as his association with the ABSDA.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John N.B. (506-634-7424). Visiting hours are Thursday, December 12th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 13th at 11:00 AM in the Brenan’s Chapel. A private family interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, the Grace Presbyterian Church or the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
