Shirley, Terry, Craig and family, our sincere condolences. Our thoughts are with you all. Derek was such a wonderful kind person, referee, coach, administrator and mentor. He had so many stories that he was able to tell with such enthusiasm and wit. He, Richard Forrester and Dwight Hornibrook taught me so much about coaching soccer which included to always have fun and let the kids play. We have so many wonderful memories at the soccer fields with him.

What an extraordinary man Mr. Wisdom was and a life well lived. My sincere and heart felt condolences to the Wisdom family. To Terry and Craig,,, thank you for sharing him with us all.
When I think of your dad, he's in his Referee's uniform, blowing his whistle, running toward me, reaching in his pocket and with a twinkle in his eye, pulls out another Yellow Card, and says "Murray, you know better than that".
Rest peacefully Mr. Wisdom, thanks for sharing your love for sport with us all.
We are all better for having known you.
God bless.

We were very saddened to learn of Derek’s passing and extend our hearfelt sympathies and condolences to his family and friends for their loss. As Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award recipients, we owe our commitment to “community service” because Derek instilled it in us through the DofE program. We never forgot the influence Derek had on us and how it stayed with us throughout our careers. We were fortunate to have him as a mentor. He touched so many lives in such a positive way. Our caring thoughts and prayers are with his family, as they reflect on his life and his many contributions.
Most sincerely.

It's funny, the number of times I've thought of Mr. Wisdom thru the years. I knew as a kid that he was special in the way he was a strict soccer coach and principle and did it all with compassion.
I believe I am a better person because of him.

Terry and Family; my sincere condolences. Derek was such a great person. He was my phys ed teacher at Prince Charles School and certainly inspired me to pursue education as a career.
As a student I participated in the Duke of Edinburgh program which Derek initiated. I later continued to teach it when I taught at Prince Charles School.
It was a sad day for me when you left Prince Charles to become principal at Glen Falls. But with your leadership, and patience the school. naturally thrived.
I do have many fond memories of your time at Prince Charles, and kept in contact with Terry throughout the years.
Rest in peace Mr. Wisdom

My condolences to Mr. Wisdom's family on his passing. I was a student of his at the Glen Falls school way back then......spent many hours on the "sawdust field" kicking a ball around with Mr. Wisdom showing us some of his kicking talents. He also invented the "pinch" ...who only those who knew him in the classroom would know what that was about.....well those who may have gotten under his skin from time to time anyway.....one of my all time favorite Teachers growing up. Condolences to all.

My tribute to a man who shaped my life as a young player and then continued to impact my life as l embarked on a coaching experience that l owe to the efforts he made in helping establish the Atlantic Regional Training Centre at UNBSJ from 1987-1994. His wit, charm, wisdom (no pun intended) combined with his class and passion for the game he loved inspired me and many others on our journeys in sport and in life.
There are no words to express the gratitude l feel for him and his enduring impact on my life. I will miss the magic of his smile and his quiet words of encouragement that were part of my journey into the world of soccer.
My condolences go to all of his family members and know the my heart is with you as you mourn his passing!!

I was a wee 3 year old laddie when my Mom and Dad landed in Saint John from Glasgow, Scotland. Living in Rockwood Court my Dad, who loved “football”, as they called the game of soccer in Europe, out on our huge field every day he could.
One day around 1966 my Dad, Bobby Clark, was all excited to tell me about this new lad, Derek Wisdom, who knew the game of football inside and out. Derek was such a gentleman to include my Dad in the many training sessions on the Allison Grounds.
There is no doubt in my mind Coach Wisdom, who grew the game of soccer, taught me not only the skilled part of the game, but also the physical and mental parts of this game ! It not only gave me success it football, but was a huge part of the success in hockey for a 43 year career in the pros !
Coach Wisdom, thank you for being such a gentleman to include my Dad in our Allison Ground sessions, and installing the work ethic, skill training and playing as a team. Love, Gordie Clark

Derek is and will always be in my thoughts. I have been thinking of Derek and Shirley quite a bit the last while. Derek was a wonderful football (soccer) supporter for the youth. But, in my opinion, he was so supportive of women and girls playing the greatest game in the world. It was because of Derek that I became the women' s representative for Soccer NB and, when he retired, he strongly suggested that I apply for executive director and I was successful in my bid. When Soccer NB brought in the provincial tournament for "B" women, I wanted to honour him, thus naming the tournament the Wisdom Cup. Derek was one of a kind but his legacy will go on. Shirley, Terry and family, I hold you all in my heart. Carole Linda Miller Hanwell, NB.
