Obituary of Patricia Mary Gionet

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patricia Mary Gionet (McGrath), wife of the late Aimé Gionet, announces her passing which occurred on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born on May 19, 1931, in Tracadie, New Brunswick. She was the daughter of the late Azade and Annie (Sonier) McGraw.

Patricia will be remembered for her deep Catholic faith. She was an independent woman who could handle anything herself. Her strength was something to be admired and a trait she passed on to her family. When Aimé fell ill, Patrica took the reins getting a full-time job to help support her family and raise her four boys. Patricia always wanted to finish her schooling as she valued education. She went back to school and got her English GED while raising her children. Once she retired from her work as a Dietary Supervisor with the Saint John Regional Hospital, she also took her GED testing in French.

She valued time with her family and enjoyed trips to Florida and across Canada. She loved to spend her summers at her cottage at Val Comeau. In her spare time Patricia was talented with knitting and crochet. She loved knitting socks for Christmas and baking traditional Acadian meat pies at Christmas time.

Patricia is survived by her sons: Ronald (Linda King), Gerard (Sherry Wilkins), John Paul “JP” (Susan Lanteigne), and Michael Gionet; brothers Louis Marie (Claudette) McGraw and Emmanuel McGrath; sisters Eldwidge Martin, Alma (Thomas) Keleher and Norma Gaudet; grandchildren: Sally (Todd) Banks, Alexander (Heather Crosby) Gionet, Kaitlyn (Andrew) Edgar, Gabrielle and Natalie Gionet; great-grandchildren: Adison, Finley, Lucy, Eliza and Wesley; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers: Yvon, Edgar, Omer and sister Therese.

Special thank you to Sea Street Special Care Home and Palliative Care staff at SJRH for the love and care shown to Pat and her family.
