Obituary of Ann Mae Whittaker

Ann Mae Whittaker (née Arsenault), born October 31, 1918, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, in the early morning hours of December 21, 2024, at the extraordinary age of 106.

Ann is survived by her son Paul (pre-deceased by wife Barb), daughter Bonnie (pre-deceased by husband Geoffrey) and her grandchildren Mark (Gisele), Paula (Angus) Ryan, Sean and Paul; and her 9 greatgrandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her parents Paul and Elizabeth (who also lived to be 106 years old), Sisters Doris (Dory), Edna, Audrey, Rita, Teresa, Marjorie, Marie, Brothers Paul and Frank and husband Charles (Charlie).

From an early age, Ann demonstrated an unwavering work ethic, starting her first job at just 12 years old as a housekeeper and childcare provider. She later worked at the Woolworth’s sandwich counter, where she discovered her passion for caring for others.

As Ann grew older, she embraced the role of hostess for a bus touring company, which not only allowed her to travel but also gave her the chance to continue nurturing and caring for others.

Ann’s greatest joy came when she married the love of her life, Charlie. She loved being a wife and mother and found continued happiness as her roles evolved into grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A lover of games, Ann was particularly skilled at cribbage and Chinese checkers, often delighting in a good match well into her 100s. She also relished any opportunity to get out and about, whether it was attending a sporting event, going out for dinner or going on a shopping trip—she thrived on the excitement of being part of the world around her. In her later years, Ann kept the door to her apartment open, always ready to welcome anyone passing by for a cup of tea and a friendly chat.

Ann lived with a deep appreciation for both her faith and life’s simple pleasures. She cherished meaningful relationships with her family and was always welcoming to new friendships. She had a rare ability to make those around her feel loved, valued, and cared for. Her boundless joy and kindness touched the lives of everyone she encountered, including her dear friend Neda Asgharzade. Their bond was a beautiful testament to the power of friendship.

Ann especially treasured her weekly visits from nieces Marjorie Mae Griffin and Joanne Whipple.

A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the exceptional staff at Rocmaura Nursing Home, where Ann received outstanding care during her final years. Their unwavering dedication, compassion, and kindness made a profound difference in Ann's life, and we are truly grateful for the love and attention they provided. It was heartwarming to witness how Ann's spirit resonated deeply with the Rocmaura family, a reflection of how special she truly was to so many.

Rejoice in peace Ann.
