Hi Mary, It is with sadness I learned of Bill's passing. Our friendship goes back many years through AWWA and Water for People. I recall having dinner with you and Bill in Saint John it was your wedding anniversary and you took time out to have dinner with me. I think the last time I saw you two in person was in Toronto when Bill received an award for his work in Water for People. I know you have gone through a tough time the past year, Bill is now in a better place. Keep Strong. Bill Gates

Bill will be sadly missed by his American Water Works Association (AWWA) family for all the dedicated hard work he concentrated his mind to over decades to the cause of bringing pure clean drinking water to third world countries. Bill was the first Chair of Water For People Canada, introducing this wonderful charity to Canada in 1995. There are so many wonderful things that Bill Butler has done for his fellow man while being one of the most humble people I ever met. Rest in Peace Bill!

Mark, Thinking of you and your family in this difficult time. If hardship builds character then you should be "in the black" for character for quite some time. I did not know your Dad except by his towering reputation as an exceptional engineer. A man's primary legacy are his children. You are one of the most principled and morally astute people that I have ever had the pleasure to call a friend. If you are a reflection of your father's influence, then I wish I could have known him. In condolences Jeff

Hello Mary/Mark, Peter Hanlan passed along the sad news of Bill's passing this week and I have passed Peter's note along to all members of the Water For People - Canada Board. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolences on your loss. Bill was a great friend and a fantastic mentor and I always admired the passion and drive he had for his work in support of Water for People - Canada when we served on the Board together. He was always there for me when I need advise and guidance and for that I am grateful. I am truly fortunate and blessed to have met such an amazing person like Bill and will miss him greatly. I will always remember the time we spent together serving on the Water For People - Canada Board, sharing hotel rooms and traveling together for Board meetings and the time we spent after those meetings talking with a beer in hand about all the fantastic things we were going to make happen to support Water For People program work, and of course the time we shared together when we visited Bolivia in 2008. He was tuly a great man, a very good friend, an amazing mentor, and someone whom I will never forget. Please pass along my condolences to all members of your family in this difficult time from myself and also from all current and former Water For People Canada Board members that worked closely with Bill and knew him well. I will make sure to include Bill and all of you in my prayers. May God help you both and all of your family through this difficult time. Respectfully, Tony Petrucci
