Waneta was a true individual , a great support to Don but regularly holding her own opinions not always in agreement with Don which made her a real partner in his successes. As a young man I still remember them as regular attendees and active participants at the Saturday night dances at the Westfield Golf and Country Club. Her last years have not been easy for such an active woman but with great family support particularly Rod she persevered. Celebrate the life well lived of a great woman, wife and mother.

To the Gillis Family I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I hope she is at peace and reunited with Don. Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North, The birth-place of Valour, the Country of Worth: Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, The hills of the Highlands for ever I love. My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here, My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer: Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe, My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go. Farewell to the mountains, high-cover'd with snow, Farewell to the straths and green vallies below; Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods, My heart's in the Highlands

We were so sorry to hear of Waneta's passing. She always had a big smile, warm laugh and kind manner. She experienced a good long life of travel and adventure with a terrific husband. Our sympathies to the Gillis Family.

Hugh Murphy posted a condolence
"I have lost one of the best friends I ever had" said my mother, Jane Murphy, when we spoke last weekend about Mrs. Gillis. Nobody alive knows when the friendship between my parents, Ned & Jane, and Don & Waneta began(I never called either by their first names before this). I calculate it to have been the early 50s. I saw her most in Florida when I visited my parents; the Gillis' were three doors up the street. Being in the room with her was a spectator sport for me; never a dull moment. I remember her laugh: it escalated from a chuckle and then got louder and longer (kind of like an engine starting) depending on how funny she thought something was. Hugh Murphy Moncton
