Obituary of Waneta Gillis
Waneta Gillis (nee Bryan) passed away peacefully on April 2, 2018 in her 96th year. Dearly beloved wife of the late Donald McLeod Gillis, mother of Rodney (Judy), Thomas (Annette), Susan (Richard) and Cathy (John), eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Waneta, a nurse by training was very active and engaged in her community throughout the years. She provided great comfort and support to her husband during his illustrious career, a companion who shared enjoyment in hunting, fishing and travelling. She will be remembered as an avid sportswoman and member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club, the Carleton Curling Club; a long standing parishioner of the Germain St. Baptist Church; a fabulous cook and hostess; a woman of strong opinions and diverse interests who was never reticent to express her perspectives and provide generous support and comfort to family and friends.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Andrea Henderson and Martin Hardy who provided care, joy and compassion to Waneta during her final years.
A Celebration of Waneta’s Life will be held for family and friends at the Union Club, 125 Germain Street on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. A private interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation to the charity of your choice be made in her name.
