Goodbye Uncle Peter, it's clear from all the lovely messages that you meant an awful lot to a great deal of people! In the times we met, Becca and I could see this and wish we'd been able to spend more time with you. We always enjoyed the stories dad told us about your adventures with him in Gourock and on the Clyde. They sounded like very happy days. You were obviously such a big support not only to your own family but to many others in the community and you are going to be missed. We send all our love and sympathy to Barbara, Grant and Julie and all of your extended family - we hope they can find some comfort in each other and all of the happy memories you made for them. We will always remember you. With lots of love, Hannah and Niall xxxx

Our deepest sympathies from all of the Jory family to yours. Peter was very special to us, and the community has lost a truly good man with his passing. Peter had the most wonderful sense of humor and a delightful chuckle. He could make us all smile out of nowhere, and did. Repeatedly. He had the deepest dedication to the disability community, and gave each of us his faith and support for the avenues we pursued to try to make a difference for people. And he was always there for others - through so many of the trials or tribulations our family and other families faced, he was there with quiet support (and the occasional well-placed, well-meant expletive!). And of course his smile and his chuckle. Thank you, Peter, for all that you gave and all that you were to so many. Our hearts go out to your family. Know that you have Jory support with young John as our representative today, and with visits from us in the days/weeks ahead. Sincerely, the Jorys (John, Michael, Joani, David, and Rosi in spirit)

Barb and family, I just found out about Peter's passing. I am very saddened by this. Peter was a remarkable man with a passion to help others who needed it. My father and Peter paved many a roads for the Intellectual Disabled so they could have a better life. I think I'm still in shock as this is the time of year that Peter would get a hold of me about an Annual Dance at Lily Lake. It just won't ever be the same. He will be missed by many. God bless you all and may you find strength in your faith. Peter will never be forgotten RIP my friend

My brother Peter was 10 years older than me. As a small boy he was to me something of a hero. He was a champion yachtsman, had great skill with his hands, helped build great ships and knew the Clyde and Hebrides as well as anyone. Peter was part of the crew of a lovely converted Hebridean fishing ketch called Cunamara (Gaelic for Hound of the Sea). Owned by a local doctor, Cunamara was well known in Clyde and Hebridean waters. Three times, with Peter in the crew and sometimes at the helm, she won the King's Cup at the Royal Gourock Yacht Club. For many years he was a crew member of the boats' annual summer cruise around the Hebrides. These were great days for Peter and he sailed in the company of good, true and loyal friends.
In the winter months Peter was a stage hand for The Greenock Players. Many of his sailing friends were active with the Players and the annual pantomime was a highlight of local life.
We grew up at Gourock, on the Clyde in Scotland, about 25 miles downriver from Glasgow. It is a beautiful place on a beautiful river and Peter held his native land in great affection. He left Scotland in 1969, in search or work and, as a single man, free to roam the world and go where he pleased. As it happened he found work in St John and then he found Barbara and they had their children and there he stayed. Fifty years is a long time. He became a man of Canada, like many a Scot before him. I had a dream that when I retired I'd spend some time in the Highlands with my four brothers and my sister. We'd talk long int the night and catch up with separation. It is very sad now that Peter will not be there. My love and sympathy to Barbara, Julie, Grant and grandchildren and Peter's friends.
