To all the Donnelly Family,
When I was in my teens ....and chumming with my friend Billy, Helena was like a second Mom to me. Sooooo kind and thoughtful Helena was to her family and their friends. She was loved by everyone during her long life.

Our Aunt Lena, such a Special lady in all our lives, and in our home. She was mom’s older sister, but most important, her very best friend. I bet mom was at the head of the line with her arms outstretched to welcome her Home last Saturday. I bet they’re already laughing and telling stories about all those bus trips over the border to go shopping, or maybe one of the trips to Nashville.
I’m so grateful for our visit down east last year (2018). Susan, Fred and his wife Yolly, and myself drove from Ontario to spend Lena’s 103rd birthday with her. The day prior to Lena’s was Fred’s 75th birthday, and his only wish was to spend August 11 with Lena. We enjoyed almost an hour of sitting, singing Happy Birthday a few times, and ‘chatting’ with her. The longer we stayed the more interaction we had with her. Took her hands and swayed like we were dancing. She was smiling and excited to sway with us. She may not have known us but we certainly knew her, and she definitely knew that she was very special to us. Quite incredible how she stared at Fred a couple times, sqinched her face like she was trying so hard to remember that person! Those moments of interaction were wonderful moments for us, having travelled so far .. but the significance of Fred and her sharing their birthdays once again was the best, no matter what her response had been. So very thankful for that hour. I think we knew that would probably be our last one with her. Thank God for all the wonderful memories we’ve shared throughout the years. Go Rest in Peace now Sweet Lady. XO
