Colleen Sharkey

Obituary of Colleen Frances Sharkey

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Colleen Sharkey on May 2, 2020, after a brief illness. Colleen passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital with compassionate and caring people from the Intensive Care Unit by her side. Born in Saint John, NB on April 16, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Constance and Frank Sharkey. Colleen leaves behind her sister Shawn, as well as several dear friends.

Colleen received her elementary and secondary schooling in Saint John and graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1974. She then attended Modern Business College; and upon the completion of the program in 1975, Colleen began her life-long career with the Federal Government in Saint John. Colleen was a respected and dedicated employee who retired in 2011 from Service Canada.

She was a kind-hearted person who cared for people, giving generously to many charities that were dear to her.  Colleen was very devoted to her sister, Shawn,  visiting her every Friday at the nursing home.  Sadly, Colleen found it very difficult not to be able to see Shawn during the pandemic.

Colleen was a proud member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and acted as their Secretary for many years. She was a woman of faith in the Roman Catholic Church and attended Holy Redeemer Parish (St. Pius X).

She will be missed by her Chateau de Champlain family, having resided there for the last ten years, her Tuesday night bowling group and her many dear friends who crossed her path.

Colleen loved to travel. She and her best friend, Faye, travelled many miles together, most recently going on an Alaskan cruise, one of their dream trips.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).  A graveside service has taken place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Due to the ongoing public health restrictions, a memorial mass for Colleen will be celebrated at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of your choice, would be appreciated. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
