Obituary of N. Joy Ellis

With great sadness, but also immense appreciation for a long life well-lived, the family of N. Joy Ellis announce her passing at her residence in Loch Lomond Village on June 5, 2020. Born August 4, 1925 in St. Martins, she was a daughter of the late Arthur E. and S. Viola (Brown) McKee.

Joy worked for Birks for 39 years and was one of the first female Registered Jewellers in Saint John. She attained the position of Grand Chief with the Pythian Sisters, which brought her all over the Maritimes and into the United States. Joy was involved in her churches- Holy Trinity, St. Martins and All Saints Anglican on Park Avenue, where she was involved in the choir and was responsible for the vestry and bookkeeping. Although Joy didn’t have any children of her own, she was a cherished sister and aunt who will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her sister, Joan Atwell, Norma’s memory will live on in her nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Glendon Ellis (Barb); and several cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, Francis “Frank” Charles Ellis, Joy was predeceased by her brothers: Victor (Nora), Hartman (Flora), Fielding, Ward (Evelyn), and Paul; nieces: Moira McKee and Barbara Gallant; and great-nephew, Michael Allen.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff in all departments of Willow House in the Loch Lomond Village for their love and care of Joy.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Due to current health advisories, there will be no funeral service. A private graveside service will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Salvation Army or Mosher Hill Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family.
