Pat will be sadly missed by so many. He left his mark on this community. I will remember him from my Tourism days and probably interviewed him quite a few times at ATV news. He was always friendly, helpful and full of ideas. He always seemed to take time to say hello which was very much appreciated.

As so many have already said, Pat was a rare and special person. I met him soon after my arrival on the UNBSJ campus in 2003, and we interacted often, especially through the months of persuasion and preparation that led to the establishment of the Dal-UNB medical school program on campus. Throughout that process, Pat was a driver - committing endless hours of time, energy, and persistence to the project. That project, of course, was but one of the many he supported over a long life of community involvement and dedication which benefited so many in so many sectors of community life. I won't forget his smile, or the twinkle in his eye, or the example of community leadership he gave us all. Saint John was fortunate to count him among its citizens, and he will be deeply missed.
To Pat's family, I extend my deepest sympathy, with many memories of a truly remarkable presence in his community.

Sheila and family. What a tremendous loss to our City, it’s people - our country. Pat was the most precious gift to our community. A special, special man. Never did we see him without that smile. Even during labour negotiations that can spin off the rails on occasion.
Sheila, you two, were an amazing couple and will remember your closeness always. Bless you as you go forward and may the love felt towards Pat from so many sources bring you peace.
Sincerely. David and Marie Peacock

Dear Sheila, Trish and Sean ... Pat's death was a surprise. I am so sorry. We chatted by phone just a few weeks ago when Harry Gaunce died. It was a great conversation. Pat was absolutely one of my favourite people. Always laughing, always positive, always helpful, always humble and always with a twinkle in his eye. His legacy is both wide and deep. I always enjoyed our periodic talks and hearing about the various projects he was working on ... usually trying to convince politicians or business leaders or community leaders to do something they didn't want to do. What a skill he had, and what a success rate! And he did it all without bringing any attention to himself. It was never about him or what he wanted ... it was always about something to benefit the community. My most sincere condolences to you and your families.

It was 1962 that Pat contacted me regarding an upcoming election and we met and formed a friendship. Many of those who were involved in that campaign are gone, but some remain albeit a much smaller number. Our families have stayed in contact throughout the years after we left New Brunswick in 1968. We have followed each others family and got together whenever possible.
After I left NB, a tradition was born whereby I would call Pat on St Patricks Day, I think we may missed one since 1969, it was always a highlight to talk about the dinner and remember old friends. I will raise a glass on March 17th next to remember a dear friend.
New Brunswick and Saint John will miss Pat and his tireless work on their behalf and it was fitting that Pat was awarded the Order of Canada a few years ago, we were honoured to be able to join Pat and family for a preceremony supper in Ottawa.
Our thoughts are with the Family as we think often our the closeness that continued over the many years.

Pat adopted me the day we met at a CSAE convention when he found out my mom was from Moncton. I will always love our memories of fun and joy. When he brought the SS Pensacola into port for our CSAE National Conference, well let's just say he knew how much I appreciated his hard work. I asked him how he pulled that off ... in his humble way he said he just wrote a letter.

Sheila, Trish, Sean, and all family members,
Pat was a dear friend and mentor to me for over 30 years. He is all that is described here...caring, committed, hard-working, fun. Every individual, organization, and community that knew Pat was richer for the experience and he loved making a positive difference of which there are countless examples. He had a full, remarkable life and I know he embraced it with passion. He always spoke with pride about his family. We have so many wonderful memories to remember him. Thinking of you and hoping that the appreciation and affection so many people have for Pat's extraordinary life, and his example, will be a comfort.
