Sonny and I and the boys played together in the 60's for a short period of time. We even rented equipment from him as well. He was quite a guy. If I remember correctly we did a gig on TV House Party on CHSJ- TV on one Saturday afternoon. Last seen Sonny quite a few years ago during a visit back home from British Columbia were I reside now. Bless you Sonny, you helped a lot of people. Rest in peace my friend.

On behalf of my brother, Adrian Thornton, and myself, we would like to send our deepest condolences to Sonny's family, friends, and the musical community that Sonny was a big part of. Not only an outstanding musician of great versatility, reliability, and interconnectedness, he was also a very good friend to Adrian. He leaves a big hole in the musical life of Saint John!
Here is a photo of Sonny and Adrian, sometime in the 90's, taken from the TV.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Sonny was one of the best human beings that Hok and I had known. What a great man. We loved him as the stage manager and sound man for our performances, but he went above and beyond that. He was a true friend.

Sonny was loved very much by our whole family. I remember the times when he and Carol would invite Lynne and me over to their place to dance to rock and roll music and spend time with us. Our dad had passed away in 1966 and they were there for us. I always treasured that. I also remember the lovely murals he would paint at the front of his house. A very kind, loving and talented man. In later years, my sons would love when he would come to Truro and jam in our living room.
Our deepest condolences to Carol and Brandon❤️
With love,
Brenda, Don, Alex & Colton

To Carol and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Sonny's passing. I remember him well from having a table myself at the flea market. He was such a soft gentle soul and a perfect gentleman and a great musician. My son remembers him well from Jam sessions and spoke very highly of him. Such a great loss. God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Helen Slattery and family

I had the pleasure of getting to know Sonny back when I was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Local. His dedication to love music and to the NB Musicians Association were truly unsurpassed. And most important, he was plain and simply and good guy! He will be sorely missed. My very sincere condolences to all of you.

On behalf of our entire union, please accept my condolences. We are all deeply saddened by Sonny's unexpected passing. He was a stalwart member of the AFM for 56 years - present at the signing of our Local Charter - and served as our Local President for almost a quarter century. He used to joke that he was never elected President; he was nominated and acclaimed to the position in late 1990, after a term on the Local board, and remained unopposed for twelve consecutive terms, retiring from the position in August 2015 due to his health. He remains the only past President of our Local to be honoured with the title of President Emeritus. More than his service: he was a good friend to so many of us. Words are insufficient to describe how Sonny shaped our Local, or how much he will be missed. Rest in peace, brother. You have held the fermata long enough, and the remaining bars are tacet.
