Obituary of Sonny Weyman

Weyman, Norman “Sonny” Granville –

It is with broken hearts that the family of Norman Granville Weyman announce his passing on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in Saint John on September 3, 1942, he was the son of the late William and Almeda (Waycott) Weyman.

Sonny was a motor mechanic by trade but most would probably remember him for his musical accomplishments. In his early years he played with Johnny Storm and Ned Landry. Sonny actually helped to produce the Ned Landry Television Show. His musical achievements were many, including President of the NB Musicians Association Local 815 for 24 years, stage manager for Symphony NB for 20 years, made as well as performed on many recordings and being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. In that same year, Premier Frank McKenna awarded Sonny an outstanding achievement award for his work in the field of country music. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Sonny will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; son, Brandon Weyman (Kelli) of Saint Stephen; grandsons, Marshall and Jacob Tinker; sisters-in-law, Melita Freeze and Marion Freeze; brother-in-law, Jack Freeze (Florence); cousins, Lynn Crozier and Brenda Smith both of NS and Frances Moriarty of BC.

Sonny’s family would like to thank the staff of the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home for all their care and compassion shown to Sonny during his time there. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 25 and 26 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
