Obituary of Margaret Gray
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Margaret Ann Rose (Lavine) Gray, born July 7, 1953 in Saint John, NB, to the late Harry and Helen Lavine. Margaret was welcomed into her heavenly home on September 20, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, passing peacefully with family at her side.
She worked initially for the Saint John School Board in the library before moving her career to the UNB library for 32 years. She retired in 2018 with the Distinguished Service Award. During her time at UNB, she served on the CUPE executive for 15 years.
Margaret blessed family and friends with her gift for story telling. Her honesty and humour characterized her life. There was always an open door for friends and family for “spaghetti” every Saturday night. Her generosity for others involved charitable work when a need presented itself.
She leaves behind Rodney, her devoted husband of 45 years. His love and commitment were constant, not leaving her side as he cared for Margaret during her brief illness.
Margaret cherished being a mother to Michael and mother-in-law to Rebecca. She was an adoring Grammy who lived for her two grandsons, Connor and Aidan. Margaret knew she would be reunited with her daughter, Kayla Erin.
Margaret’s clan who dined at the Gray table regularly will celebrate the empty chair at the table with the many stories and recollections of her life: siblings, Frank Lavine, Robert Lavine and Diane Scullion.
Also close cherished family: Cheri Scullion; Kim and Stephen Lavine; Ryan and Chrissy Lavine and their children, Seth and Zofia; Nic Lavine; Laurie and Jeff Bennett and their children, Joshua, Alyssa and Jessica; Joanne and Donnie Peters, Barry and Bev Lavine and their children, Tyler and Bailey. Margaret was predeceased by her brothers, Gordon, John and Harvey.
The family extends sincere thanks for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Le, Dr. Bewick, Extra Mural nurses and the staff of both the Family Medicine and Palliative Care units at the SJRH.
