Obituary of Thomas "Tom" Longon
After a brief battle with cancer, Thomas David Longon sadly passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 21st, 2020. Thomas was born in Saint John on 2 August 1942, son of the late Russell Longon and Bessie (Brown) Longon.
Tom was a life long resident of the South End and graduated from Saint John High School in 1960. He then attended U.N.B before taking a position at Lantic Sugar Refinery in 1965 and worked there until his retirement in 2000. Upon retirement he enjoyed going to the Aquatic Centre and meeting at the Market with the coffee gang. Life long passion for Mustangs, he loved taking drives with the top down on beautiful summer days and evenings.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carreen (Clarke) Longon and his two children, Jeffrey (Linda) Longon and Jennifer Longon both of Saint John; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Arthur) Weddell and Carollee (James) Carnell, along with several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John NB (634-7424) with visitation on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 2-4 PM. Guests are asked to enter the funeral home using the courtyard entrance, where staff will greet and assist you with Covid-19 protocol. A private family service will take place at Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in Tom’s name, can be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – The Give or a charity of the donor’s choice. WWW.BrenansFH.com.
