Mr Fitzgerald was also my favorite teacher. At the end of grade 7, all Grade 7 students and teachers were going to a BBQ at Ragged Point beach. I lived in the rifle range, and one of my classmates was also my neighbor headed for Ragged Point on our bikes. We just got on the road to the beach when my bike had broken down so we were going to go home. Mr Fitzgerald saved the day, he put our bikes in his car, took us to the celebration BBQ where we had a great time. He also, took us home and kept my bike, fixed it and brought it back. How great he was!!! In the remaining years of junior high and high school, history was my best subject. Never forgot Mr Fitzgeral, thank you!!!

Sorry to read of Bob's death .... went to school with him at St. Malachys. Quiet guy, good sense of humour ... solid. In 1960 he made over 90% on an algebra Provincial Deparmental Exam (formerly called "Matrics"). Almost everyone else in our class Failed! After that we just called him the "quiet genius" ... he thought that was real funny. Everyone at school liked Bob. Real good guy.

Sincere condolences to you Kevin and your family.
I, as well, was a student at Hazen White - St. Francis ‘63-‘72. Your Father was my Home Room Teacher and can proudly say I am honoured to have been a part of his Graduation Class of ‘72. “Fitzy” was a well respected Teacher and very deserving of this quality. His compassion and interest for the students was very visible. He made all of us feel important and treated all students (no matter the circumstances) the same. We were so blessed to have him play an important role in our education and our lives.
Rest In Peace Mr FitzGerald .You will truly be missed by all whose lives you touched.

I had the pleasure of meeting Fitzy many years ago at EPR. I also was a co-worker of his wife's. A true gentleman, he was. I fondly remember our trips together to Bass Park in Bangor. And also our "claiming wars" at EPR!!! All great times & memories. I offer my condolences to Kevin & his extended family.
Rest easy, old friend. If the World had more people like you, it would be a much better place. Thanks for the memories.

So sorry to hear of Fitzy's death. I taught with Fitzy for 31 years. He was there when I arrived as a new teacher. He was a person you could always go to for help and guidance. He was a true partner and protector. He watched over me when difficult parents came to confront me, helped me with students and mothered and worried about me when I was pregnant for my three children. We had great times together. He was a big part of my school family. I will be donating in Fitzy's name to HWSF through the Youth Enhancement Program that helps provide food for their Nutrition Programs. Thinking of you during this difficult time. Ann B

So sorry to hear the passing of such a wonderful man. I went to Hazen-White school from 1972-1975. My 6 siblings also went there as well. Mr Fitzgerald was a teacher that we all looked up to. He was kind to everyone and I believe being taught my such a wonderful person and never being belittled or looked down on for being under privileged, taught us all that we can all become what ever we chose. RIP Mr Fitzgerald you played an important part in so many children’s lives.

Kevin:
Another page turns in my life history! Bob (Fitzy),joins Hughie, Mary Fitzpatrick, next door on Waterloo St. Time draws us to our life's path, yet never diminishes our friendships developed so many years ago being a part of the CYO gang from Waterloo, Cliff, Paddock, Exmouth St. I reflect on those days and cherish my memories of Bob and my friends of those days so long ago! Bob had the first convertible which he shared with us so many times. As folks do, we went our separate ways in life, seldom seeing each other, yet, that does not diminish my feeling of loss today. I remember Bob and Karen today and now keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

This is one of those obituaries that you hope would never get printed - my heart is heavy. I graded in 1971 ....Fitzy was my grade 7 and then grade 9 teacher. My memories of him are still vibrant today..... decades later. He saw something in me ... he nurtured my love for history...and I won the grade 9 history prize...which set me on my career path. He was by far my best and most favourite teacher. Thank you Fitz. When Karen was still working at the post office, she would keep me updated on how things were with him.
