Susan Elizabeth (O'Brien) Galley posted a condolence
Thursday, June 3, 2021
I was very sorry to read of Mrs. Stackhouse's passing. I was one of her kindergarten students back in the late 1960's, and I have very vivid memories of going to Rocky Bluff Terrace. It was such a creative and caring environment...I have thought of Mrs. Stackhouse over the years, and how she gave me such a good foundation for starting school. My condolences to her family. Sincerely Susan O'Brien Galley

I had the pleasure of working with Jo for several years on school libraries. She cared deeply about the role of school libraries and had a remarkable vision of what their value in developing critical thinking skills could be. She was a well rounded individual with a wide range of interests and always willing to share her experience with others. My sincere condolences to Hank, Greer, Eric and families.

Your mother was a mentor to me when I was teaching at Lakefield Elementary and had responsibility for the library there. Later I went to Western and met Eric who was also in the library program. She was a wonderful woman and a real leader for school libraries. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. May your memories of all the special times you shared give you comfort.

Hank and Family, your Mom (and Dad) were so welcoming, kind and very caring to us as kids, and adults. I have so many memories of spending time at Rocky Bluff, outside, inside, upstairs and down, and never once did I feel like I was intruding! Your Mom and I would have such great conversations about just about anything, more so as an adult. I would see Leslie and your Mom out and about, we would always chat it up, they were both fabulous women! This picture of your Mom is how I will always remember her. My love, thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our sympathies to all of Jo's family. It was a wonderful day back 65 or so years ago when Virginia (Dunbrack) stopped Jo on Wright Street to have a chat and began a life long friendship between the Dunbracks and the Stackhouses. It has been a joy to have had such a great lady to call our friend.

Thank you Phyllis. One of my favourite younger memories was when Dad, your Dad and Mom would stand around our kitchen counter at end of day having a drink and telling stories. I would sit on the dining room side of the counter and listen to them laugh and thoroughly enjoy each others company. It was never viewed as "Adult Time". I was always welcomed by them all and they would always include me in the conversation. How lucky we all were to have each others families as friends.

My condolences to you all.
Your Mom ( and Dad for that matter) were the type of parents that when I was a kid, I hoped I would become. Generous and open and treated everyone with respect and care. I particularly remember great times at Xmas and Skipping Rock. And then our families plus Jo went on a cruise! That woman had more energy and love of life than just about anyone I know! She will be missed.

Thanks Joe from all of us. I have a great photo of you and Mom on that day trip we took to up the Fundy Trail. I know Mom (& Dad) loved seeing you. I remember in our earlier days when we would swing by the house for something. I would say "ok Joe. Lets head out & you would reply. Whats your hurry. Lets spend some more time chatting with your Mom & Dad"
