Josephine Mary Stackhouse (Castillou), passed away peacefully at the Turnbull Nursing Home in her adopted city of Saint John, New Brunswick, Friday, May 21, 2021. Born January 4, 1928 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Josephine, known to all as Jo, was the youngest child of Henry and Mintie (Greer) Castillou. She had fond memories of skiing, horseback riding, summers on Salt Spring Island, and being with close friends. After graduating from the University of British Columbia she attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in Library Science.

In Toronto she met her husband James Clarke Stackhouse, known as Jim, and they moved to Saint John. In Saint John she raised a family, operated a well-known kindergarten, and completed a degree in education at the University of New Brunswick. Until retirement Jo was the Coordinator of Library Services for Saint John and southwest New Brunswick schools.

Jo was a passionate believer in reading and learning and loved all things creative. Gardening was her main hobby, both at home and at the summer camp. With Jim, she welcomed everyone into their home overlooking the Bay of Fundy, offering non-conditional friendship, humour, assistance, and advice. She loved her time at the summer camp on the Saint John River, especially rowing and swimming in the cove.

She is survived by her daughter Greer (Peter), sons Hank (Cyndi) and Eric (Fern), son-in-law Ron, grandchildren Jesse, Gray, Emma, Jay, Terra, Lindsey, Taalor, and Fraser, and great-grandchildren, Bradley, Cassandra, Catherine, Canfield, and Flynn.
