Becky, Aaron, and Adam, My condolences in the passing of Darrell (your Dad). It is hard to believe after all the years he rallied. It was an absolute pleasure to visit the few times I had the privilege, whether at your home or randomly out in public. I was so impressed with Darrell and your positivity about life. Very refreshing!!! I loved hearing Vicki sharing about the latest adventure you guys would do even when energy was at a premium. You and your family are superb role models! The world has a huge void with Darrell's passing, yet his influence carries on through you and the boys! Much love to all of you!! xoxo❤️❤️ Beth (Brown) and Dan

Roger and I send our deepest sympathies to you all. The weekend we moved here, 31 years ago, we were invited to a corn boil “on the court” and I remember meeting Darrell and Beckie, they were so welcoming, amazing neighbours! Our whole family looked forward to Halloween each year waiting to see what Darrell would come up with, he never disappointed. I mentioned to him one summer that my sister and her family would be at Marco Polo Land the same time as they would be, he asked for their site number, he would play a joke on them. He went to their site, called them by name, knew all the kids names and continued on as if they were long lost friends and all the while my sister had no idea who he was! He laughed so hard telling me the story!! Autumnwood Avenue will miss you.

Becky .....So saddened to hear about Darrell. Guess I just thought (as many did) that he would be one of those lucky people who could beat the dreaded cancer and live to be a ripe old age, defying all odds, as he had done so many times before. So enjoyed my visit at your place a short time ago. Know this will leave a terrible void in your life. God give you strength to get through these most difficult times but I know you have such happy memories to hold on to and share with your boys in the days to come. Darrell was an amazing person. May he rest in peace!

To all who knew and loved Darrell - so many memories and stories have been shared here, and I'm laughing and crying and reliving the moments as I read them. My most vivid memory is of the Belyea home all lit up at Christmas. Darrell sure was a superior elf in his determination to wrap every last branch in colour. Thank you, Darrell, for your spirit and magical whimsy. Thank you, Becky and family, for helping to make Ridgewood Park such a memorable neighbourhood. We were so sad to hear of Darrell’s passing.
I met Darrell in university. I was fortunate that Darrell agreed to be my best man at our wedding.
That title of best man characterized what he was to most people that ever met him. He truly was one of the best!
Darrell was a best friend to so many and the best husband and father that anyone could have imagined.
Darrell was one of the most extraordinarily positive people that I have ever had the privilege to meet and to call a friend.

Becky, Aaron and Adam; Glenda and I are so sad for the loss of Darrel. We have always had a lot of respect for Darrel as a really good man. We treasured the ski trips and meals our families shared together for many years. Darrel was kind enough to invite me to be part of the guys motorcycle trips where I met another group of fine people. I always looked forward to riding with Darrel and his friends.
We formed an even stronger bond as we could rely on Darrel for not only our companies accounting services, but good advise in growing our business. He was not only smart, but had a lot of business experience that we could rely on.
Darrels courage , will to live and determination over the past 15 years was truly admired and respected by so many. He was always so positive , a lesson for us all. Glenda and I will always have very good memories of Darrel. Darrel set a high standard for being a good human being and we will miss him dearly.

I first met Darrell when he was graduating from UNB and I interviewed him for a job as a student in accounts in the Chartered Accountant program. I knew right away that he was going to be an excellent accountant and offered him a job. I had no idea he would also be a lifelong friend and companion.
We worked together, lived together, vacationed together, went trailering together, took motorcycle trips together, went to Montreal for hockey games together (Thanks Mike!) went fishing together and raised our families together. Darrell often said that my daughters, Julie and Jana, were like the daughters he never had to him.
Darrell loved life and his positive attitude and courage shone through even when he was so sick.He loved to say and do things that made others feel good and always looked for a chance to surprise someone with a kind gesture or words.
A month ago Becky and I took Darrell for a walk on a beautiful sunny day. Darrell was in a wheelchair and very much enjoying the fresh air and the view of the river he so loved. As we walked we saw a rain front coming and it hit sudden and just poured! We were soaked in no time and I asked Darrell if he wanted to turn around and head home. "No way" he said, "this is great!"
As we walked home the sun came out and we sat in his driveway talking for an hour, still soaking wet. A treasued memory of a great guy with an indomitable spirit.
I consider myself so lucky to have such an excellent friend and his courage and strength is an inspiration to us all.
I am going to miss you buddy!

Dear Becky
We were truly heart broken by the sad news of Darrell’s passing. I would like to share a few stories of our life experiences with this genuine kind-hearted & multi-talented gentleman. Darrell was playing street-hockey with Aaron, Adam & other neighbourhood kids. I was watering our front garden when Darrell made the mistake of coming too close & I raised my garden hose and said: “Oops, sorry Darrell”. All of a sudden the hockey game grew silent & when I turned around… Darrell was walking up the street armed with a Super-Soaker strapped to his back & the boys all armed with smaller versions of the same. It soon escalated into all-out neighbourhood water fight. My garden hose was no match & I was soaked from head to toe & Darrell & sons chalked this one up to their victory column. Darrell was a Super Dad & was always taking care & participating in Aaron & Adam’s events. When my daughter had a serious accident and was at the SJRH for an operation; Darrell was there that same night to lend his moral support to 2 very stressed-out parents. I also remember a very touching poem that he wrote & read to a close friend, from Nova Scotia. We shared many memorable Corn Boils, First Lights & Halloweens together… by the way everyone looked forward to seeing what costumes that Darrell & Marc Blanchard would come up with… Ridgewood Park was the best neighbourhhod to raise children and we were fortunate & blessed to have crossed paths with neighbours like Darrell. Becky, Aaron, Adam & family our thought are with you all during this difficult time. (Craig & Carole Street, Montreal).
