We met Bill approx.. 15 years ago though a mutual friend who – when he knew we were travelling from London, Ontario, to Saint John, New Brunswick on business – told us to “drop by and visit my friend Bill – you’ll love him!” And while we were hesitant to impose on a stranger, we did “drop by” and – yes – we did indeed find Bill very welcoming and lovable!
Although our actual in-person time together was brief, we have kept in touch ever since that visit via phone, email, and Facebook, and have maintained a warm connection and friendship.
It is clear from the shared memories and comments that Bill was loved by many in his community. My condolences to all his family and friends – he will be missed.

Bill and I met in Grade 2 at East Saint John School. He has always been one of my favourite friends and definitely the most positive individual I have ever known. For the last 30 years we have lived over 4,000 kms apart and eventually transitioned from emailing to long distance phone calls, which increased significantly during the last couple of years. Our calls were always filled with so much laughter and good memories and we would both agree at the end of each one that we couldn't believe 4 to 5 hours had passed and yet we still had so much more to discuss.
Bill always felt he was so lucky to have so many good and caring friends. In every conversation he talked about how fortunate he was to have his best friend, Steve, live so close and how he would not have been able to live so independently in his own home if it had not been for Steve's care. I don't think Bill realized that it was all of us who were truly so lucky to have him as our friend.
Rest in peace dear friend. I will always miss you.

Our Simonds Class of '61 reunion was the last gathering where we were more or less safely together. Bill wouldn't have missed it for anything! It was 18th Sept., and I now realize that it was just a couple of days after his birthday. Had we known that, he would have been recognized with the famous "Happy Birthday to you" from all of us in attendance. I believe he may have been one of last to leave the reunion, and had had a wonderful time. You will be missed by us all, Bill. Rest peacefully.

Dear Marie and all the family, We are so sorry that you have lost Bill! He was a larger- than- life character. He always had a laugh and a joke and lived his life boldly and courageously on his own terms. He did it "his way"! He valued his many friends and treated them all so kindly! He loved his family, and especially missed his Mom. He had several great and close friends in Thailand, where he loved to vacation and travel around.
Luckily, I was one of his friends. I knew Billy for about sixty years. He was an usher at our wedding. We partied togther, visited each other in all the Canadian cities we both lived in, and talked long on the phone at all hours of the day and night! So much fun! Billy loved to eat and eat out! He could cook a great meal in the younger days, and always kept our kids entertained when they visited. They all lament the loss of "Uncle Bill"!
Bill was helped out by his wonderful neighbour Steve Hill, in the last couple of years of his life. Steve, you made it possible for Billy to enjoy the dignity and freedom of being at home. Bill had amazing neighbours who provided cooked meals to him for months on end. Thankfully, he was surrounded by love!
Young Bill, dear old buddy, rest in peace! Your pals, Young (LOL) Carol and Dave (Bennett)

Little did I know that when Bill called last Sunday night that it would be our last conversation. He was ready but we weren't. Bill enjoyed our "lunch bunch from the class of 1961 Simonds High School, and we certainly enjoyed sharing that time with him. Bill told me that one of his highlites of 2021 was attending the 60 year class reunion of SRHS. That was heartwarming to hear as it was the last time we met in person. Bill always expressed his appreciation for the help he received from his sister, Marie and all the help he received from his friend and neighbour Steve. Sending my sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed. Joan Lawrence

Dear Marie,
I'm so glad I got to know Bill in these last few years; I enjoyed listening to his stories about growing up here in Saint John, his times working at the bar, and his friends. And as much as I listened to him, he listened to me, and gave me comforting and supportive advice when I had troubles.
I'm going to remember and miss him forever.
