TO: Donna, all of Dr. Farrell’s family, and extended family, I can only say,
It is with great sadness, that I learned of Dr. Farrell’s death, yesterday; while at St. John Regional Hospital for Day Surgery (postponed).
I was mentioning to an OR Nurse, how fortunate I was for the second time, to have be given someone’s cancelled surgery spot; on short notice. That I was batting 200%, if I got the surgery. I told her, “In March 2019, Dr. Farrell had operated on my right eye. I was referred to him, by Dr. Clark; the Emergency Doctor who had examined my seriously infected eye.” It was then, that she told me of Dr. Farrell’s death and showed me his January 17.2022 Obituary. I felt very sad to hear the news. It brought me to tears again, as I had recently lost my sister, Cathy (May 12.2022). She was also, 74 years old.
My Moment With Dr. Donald Farrell:
You see, I had had 3-1/2 months of ‘treatment’ at a Walk-in Clinic and my right eye was getting worse by the week. Fortunately, Dr. Farrell agreed to see me that day in March 2019. He examined my eye and determined, that I needed eye surgery. While, I was there in his office, a cancellation occurred. Dr. Farrell performed eye surgery on me the next morning at 8:15 AM. It was not just that he had performed the surgery; it was his wonderful manner. He was kind and gentle in speaking with me; his great attempt to help me relax before he started. And, he was very good, at doing just that. But, once he started on my right eye; his professionalism took over, and in no time at all; the operation was successfully completed. Follow up care afterwards, was good too.
I would like to say, to Donna, that I appreciated all the treatment you gave me, when you partnered with Dr. Farrell in his practice. And Donna, “I did not give you ‘away’ to Dr. Farrell, when you shopped that day, in March.”
I would like to thank Dr. Farrell’s daughter, who also worked at his practice on King Street. It was truly a ‘family affair” there; efficient, professional, and with a kind interest, in their patients. Thank you so much.
In closing, I would like to say, that it does not take a lifetime, to feel at home with someone. Dr. Farrell, was that ‘kind’ of man. May you now; Rest In Peace.

Went to St. John the Baptist and St. Malachy’s with Don. The last time I ran into Don was on King Street about 10 or 12 years ago. He caught up with me and took me back to his office where he proceeded to take a laminated 8 by 10 picture out of his desk drawer and handed it to me. It was a picture of our Grade One class at St. John the Baptist. He knew we would cross paths uptown at some point and was only too happy to absolutely brighten my day with this gesture. I didn’t realize how many friends I had from that year and of course Don being one of them. My condolences to Don’s family and friends. RIP Don - if that is even possible for you.

Dear Donna and all of Don's family, I want to express my sorrow at the news of Don's sudden death.
We were friends from our undergrad days at St.FX. and then again, spanning a chasm of some years
re-united at our summer Classics for Classics Alum get-togethers. Don was in so many ways, truly
a "classic"!
It was wonderful to learn again of his many rich travel, community service and educational experiences,
and I hope that the shared memories of these will comfort you and your family at this time.
Don made a large contribution to his community and all who knew him share in your sense of loss.
Thank you Don for being a generous friend to us all. God speed on your final journey.

I was so deeply saddened to learn of Donnie's passing. I knew Donnie from Saint John and X and like the Farrells we also had a summerplace by Treadwell Lake. He was always his own man and I admired his attitude towards life - making the most of every interest and passion. But it will be the bridge table at the SUB at X and the friendly chats when meeting uptown in Saint John when I was home for a visit that I will remember with fondness - Donnie just being Donnie. My sincere condolences to Donna and all of the family

Donna; Maggie and I extend our deepest and most profound condolences on learning of Dr Farrell's death; While he was LOVED and cherished by so many , we know from personal experience over a course of 30 years, he always treasured our friendship always interested in our well being and forever truly supportive of anything and everything we embarked on....he in fact acted on my levels as a confidant , always encouraging us whatever the pursuit...we felt a sense of belonging in his life...even when we were seen professionally as he would always ask about my older brother Charlie and reminence the days of St Mac's..he was a true , dependable, and respectable friend that we are all going to miss. To say he is /was an icon would be an under-statement....he was one of the biggest fans for our community and the throngs of people's lives he touched immeasurable. We hope you find some relief in knowing his passing is felt around our community and beyond GOD BLESS YOU and know we are thinking of you in these darker hours/days.
