To the two families and her devoted friend Phyllis,
My goodness, fond memories come flooding back to many of us from SJHS, class of 1973, Im sure. Her musical talent was a power to be reckoned with. My fondest memory lies in watching her dance “like no one was watching” at our SJHS Reunion at Lily Lake. Her energy and enjoyment of yoga was apparent beyond measure. I don’t know how she did it! Her life may have been shortened but was very intense, revolving around the many activities she loved - Yoga, music, teaching, singing, performing, directing, choreography, and the list goes on. I take comfort that she is once again reunited with her loved ones and also pray that she is assigned as one of the lead soloists in God’s Heavenly Choir.

Lost touch when she moved but wherever we crossed paths, she still had that amazing smile and warm hello. My heart goes out to her family and friends. May she be at Eternal Rest and Peace . To Joanne's family, and to her good friend Phyllis Knox:
I was blessed to have shared many wonderful music-making and life-giving moments with Joanne while at Saint John High, where we graduated together in 1973; be it in the choir under Robert Edwards (and Symphony Choir), 'Guys and Dolls', 'Fiddler on the Roof', and 'Annie Get Your Gun' - which Andrew Garrod had staged in order to feature Joanne's exceptional talent.
I was given the honour and privilege to briefly visit with Phyllis and Joanne while she was at the SJ Regional before going to Bobby's Hospice. She was an exceptional individual. May she now eternally rest in peace.

To Joanne’s original family, other family, and her lifelong friend,
I share these words on behalf of the scores of children whose love of music was enriched by Joanne’s tutelage. I remember the thrill of learning her last name: delighted that a woman who so clearly exuded a life for music would be aptly named with such a homophone.
The strands of the folk song “I Know Where I’m Going” come to me, and I shall sing them lustily for her now as she once taught me (with a waggle of my fingers with a ring for every one as the lyrics go).
May you find peace in this new life chapter as a family.
We stand with you to honour a cherished life.

I was blessed to meet Joanne when I was 22, initially as a friend of the family and luckily for me, she became my vocal coach. She guided much more than my singing, as she encouraged my soul and my heart with her wit and wisdom, her joie-de-vivre and kindness. During the ten years I can't with Belle Voce, Joanne graced our lives richly! I always loved best when she would step in and sing with us, or we would get to hear her at one of her soirees - simply amazing. She was a generous, gracious host who regaled us with the best of animal stories sprinkled with her incomparable humour and life lessons, after which we would gather around the piano and all sing together. She was a great connecter, an easy uplifter. Anne, Jane and Graham and family, Cynthia and Phyllis too - my sincere condolences - such a huge loss. Thinking of you all.

Our condolences to all of Joanne's family and friends. She was a wonderful friend to our mother Alice Mennier, generous with her time and always up for a drive in the country or to simply sit over a cup of tea and share amazing stories about music and her many adventures. Thanks Joanne, and God bless!

Joanne's passing will leave a gap in all who knew her. I had the privilege of being in the Saint John High School class of 1973 with Joanne. Her spirit of adventure led her to accept a last minute offer from my late father to attend Basic Officer Training at CFB Shilo in the summer of 1974. With no prior military experience she excelled at the many challenges taking the same rigorous training as her male counterparts that summer. The success of that experiment with integration and emancipation was in no small part due to the courage and can do attitude of Joanne and her peers.
Joanne was a good friend and I will miss her. Sincere condolences to her family.

Sandra and I have a flood-gate of memories of Joanne from her SJHS days and from the many times we met over the last years. She was a student in my class and her laughter (and sometimes humour only available to those around her) frequently kept my history classes in an uproar. No matter, we loved it and we loved the culture in which she lived - creative, artistic and loving. My favourite memory is the night of Dennis Knibb's gala send off and Joanne brought him to tears and audience to a standing ovation when she belted out "you can't get a man with a gun" from Annie Get Your Gun". Love to all her families including her fur friends. Richard and Sandra (Keirstead) Thorne

What a rich, creative and varied life, albeit too short.
My experience of Joanne was of a person who spread joy, pleasure and laughs.
She possessed a gentle, often hilarious, always sensitive, kind and self deprecating sense of humour which she shared generously.
I knew her only briefly, during long-separated, Windsong retreats, but I loved her.
She was easy to love.
She was "good" - in the purest sense of that oftentimes banal and overused word.
Despite the rarity of our times together and the distance between us, I shall miss her being in the world.
My condolences to her family and friends.

So sorry to hear of Joanne’s passing. She was a big part of my life. Besides going to high school with Joanne, I took voice lessons with her for many years. Joanne was instrumental in starting our Belle Voce singing group and she was always close to our hearts. She was always there and never missed one of our concerts, mouthing the words and breathing when we breathed. Joanne shared many of her hilarious stories, many about animals, that always kept us entertained. She had such a wit and such a big heart. She will be very much missed. Condolences to Joanne’s friends and family. The world has lost a wonderful person.

So sorry to hear of Joanne 's passing. We were neighbors in the 60's and 70's and remember all the grief all of the younger neighborhood thugs ( Graham 's buddies) tried to give her but she always seemed to one up us. I still remember a dance at the old K -Park school where I had my first waltz and Joanne was my dance partner to " Bridge over Troubled Water.
I had a chance to catch up with Joanne a couple of years ago when she came to Dad's viewing she was the same upbeat bubbly person I remember. -Neil MacKenzie

I was deeply saddened to learn of Joanne's passing. Joanne was my Monday night yoga teacher for many years. She always came to class with a story to share of her family or Jack Russell, and would make us heartily laugh and come to life. She had a strong voice and joyful spirit, and put people who never did yoga quickly at ease. Joanne was encouraging and very knowledgeable, and taught us to feel the effects of yoga and our breath. To say she was a good instructor is an understatement. Many of us would go to her musical concerts to see another part of her life, and she was entertaining, talented and funny in that arena as well. She was a remarkable woman, and I am a better person for having known her. Please accept my sincere condolences on her loss. She is at peace now. Namaste Joanne!

To all of the Kee and Doyle families we send our sincere sympathy as you say good-bye to Joanne. Our neighbour and wonderful babysitter, Joanne allowed three little girls to make fantastically decorated Christmas cookies with lots of sprinkles and the mess that goes along with it, to watch her do the most fabulous swan dives into the pool with Lovie and who was always willing to take us on an adventure. Joanne holds a special place in our hearts.

What a tragedy to hear the news of her passing, but luckily my sister Phyllis, her devoted friend was with her in her final moments! Joanne is fondly remembered by me in my high school years- mostly at Choir, or theatrical productions! She had a great smile and her laughter will resonate with me! Truly happy she followed a life in music, as her passion for performance and love of being with other people in a team were so essential to her! May you R.I.P. now Joanne! Parker Knox, Vancouver, BC.
