I was a close friend of Ann Marie Morrisey for many years. We worked together in the District 20 Music Department; she as a band director and me as a supervisor. Her fine musicianship, enthusiasm and dedication to her students made her an excellent music educator! It was an honour to have known such a wonderful person! John Hanson

Anne Marie was well loved by me and both of my children (Mark and Christy Rushworth). She was an excellent teacher and band conductor. She allowed my children to explore the study and practice of different band instruments. I remember helping her during annual fund raisers. She was also a dear friend of my sister Sandra and became a dear friend to me. She will be remembered with warm hearts by the thousands of lives she touched not only sharing and evoking a love of music.

Ann Marie and I were classmates at St. Vincent's and had many a exchange...on many topics! We both enjoyed the gift of music and I remember how, as a young person, her soul would be into whatever she was playing adding creative touches along the way. Her vocation was to awakening and encouraging what can happen in an orchestra with the diversity of instruments co-creating! Thank you, dear friend!
She was a courageous woman of faith and accepted her illness with grace. Condolences to all members of the family!
Her spirit is free for new melodies of love!

I played flute in the Saint John City Band 1975 to 1978. Miss Morrissey was a guide, a mentor and an ethical light who taught me the importance of walking in the shoes of another for a mile. She was indeed a bright musical light whom I admired and appreciated in my youth. I still think of her with warmth and caring. May she rest in peace.

Ann Marie, a treasure of the Saint John music community, was a favoured teacher to my children (oboe and clarinet), and a hoot of a conductor. She tolerated my counting in exchange for the occasional sweet note from my trumpet. You will be missed and fondly remendered - mikeR

Reposting from a post I made when I first heard the news: I was sad to hear today that my first band director passed away. Miss Morrissey was extremely dedicated to her students and did a lot to instill a love of being part of a concert band in so many of us, some of whom are still playing today! I wouldn't still be playing my saxophone almost 41 years after I started at the age of 9 if it wasn't for her patience and guidance back in the day at New Albert with the District 20 band.
Thanks for the music, Miss Morrissey.
So many of us are HER "living legac[ies] to the leader of the band"

Miss Morrisey let me start playing French horn even though I was too small to hold it properly, and encouraged me all the way to getting into Mt A to study music. I always enjoyed Mondays and Wednesdays in Senior Band, they were my favourite part of the week. I'm still playing my horn now - thank you, Miss Morrisey!

Miss Morrisey was kind, patient; a wonderful teacher & band director. I appreciated her quiet, dry sense of humor as a student & on the occasion when I got to play Horn with her.
To her family & friends I send my sincere condolences.
