Ian was The first person I met when I started at UNB Saint John. He greeted us with such kindness and kept insisting I call him Ian rather than Dr. Cameron. He made a young faculty member feel important and I’ve always appreciated his willingness to help. Saddened to hear of his passing but so glad I had to opportunity to know him.

I am greatly saddened to learn of Ian's passing. He was a wonderful colleague to have in the Physics Department after my arrival in Fredericton in 1968, and I remember many enjoyable conversations with his ready laughter and soft Scottish accent. His research on meteorites with Colin and Zafir was fascinating, with him raiding old British churches to acquire the old lead from the rooves that preceded the nuclear age in order to carry out his ultra-low-level counting experiments. I vividly recall going with Li-Hong to a great get-together with Ian at Jim Hsu's place with Hong Leung and Carl and Betty Tompkins. I send my deepest respects and condolences - Ian will be greatly missed.

Dear Mrs. Cameron and family: I met Dr. Cameron as a first year Physics student and took such comfort from the interest in and patience he had for his students. He was an amazing teacher. He was such a genuine and kind person - I recall one summer he stopped in at the Home Hardware where I was working and we were discussing plans for a dinner. He went out to the car and asked Mrs. Cameron what one might serve as a side dish with the meal I was planning then came back into the store to share your wisdom. Thank you for all the years you shared him with myself and students like me.
Yours,
Sarah DeVarenne

Dear Heather,
I will never forget the wonderful "welcome to Saint John dinner" that you and Ian held for Peter and me at your home when we moved to Saint John in 1985. A year earlier Peter had taken over Ian's job of continuing the development of the academic life of the campus. Ian shared many entertaining and good natured stories about working with various faculty members. He was a delightful raconteur and I know that over the years Peter learned much from him, enjoying his wit and benefitting from his insights in equal measure.
I know you will miss his presence but I am sure, as well, that the memories of your life together will carry you through.
Ian and you were a part of that group of Brits -the British wave- as some called it, who contributed so much to the establishment of UNBSJ in its early, challenging years.
My sincere condolences on the loss of this splendid and good man.

Dear Heather and Catriona,
Sheila and I were so very sad to learn this news. Ian was such a wonderful person-to-look-up-to for me in my years at UNB Saint John—wise, kind, quick, and full of sparkle. I can still conjure up his genial but no-nonsense approach to committee work—his committees always got things done! We know what a powerful bond he had with you both and can only begin to imagine how you will miss him. You are in our thoughts.

Mrs. Cameron: I was so sorry to read of Dr. Cameron's passing. I met him when I began working at UNBSJ in 1969 and remember him as a very kind, caring & compassionate person who always had the time for a quick conversation which usually ended with that wonderful laugh of his when he left the office. He was such a big part of UNBSJ and its growth over the years. He will be truly missed.

My condolences.
Dr. Cameron was one of my favorite profs of all time. He was very professional, very likeable, and easily approachable. He was able to explain things in a way that made it easy to understand.

Ian had a wonderful sense of humour. He taught a course in nuclear physics that was the clearest and most worthwhile of all the courses in which I was ever enrolled. He advanced the study of meteorites. He was always willing to help with any physics
" problems " over more than the 50 y that I knew him. He was a scholar and a brilliant teacher. He was a true friend and Lorna and I will greatly miss him.

I am sorry for your loss Catriona and Heather. I am thinking of you both. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know such a brilliant man, and get to see the love that he shared with his wife. Heather and Ian had a bond that few people truly get to share. I will cherish the conversations I had with Ian and never forget that when I asked about aliens in the universe he would just laugh. I never got my answer lol ! Ian will be greatly missed by all that knew him, his smile and his laugh. May he Rest In Peace.

Catriona, I am so sorry for your loss, saying good bye to a father is not an easy task. I am very glad I was able to meet both your parents and see the extreme love they shared for each other. I know they were very appreciative of the care you provided.
May he rest in peace.
