I’m Janet’s cousin; the youngest of the Penny family. It’s hard to believe that Janet was 12 years older than me. In my memories of her, she seemed my age; aways happy to play with me during visits to their home in London or cottage on Colpoys Bay. I always felt comfortable in her presence. I will always remember Janet as a kind, calm, happy person with a brilliant sparkle in her eye and dimple in her cheek. I wish we had lived closer. I’d have loved to share stories of our careers, as we have taken a similar path.
All our love to Alan, Penny and family.
Sarah and Trevor.

Over the years, I also had the privilege to work with her. She was a compassionate, caring, understanding, supportive, positive co-worker and overall, an amazing person. I will miss her dearly, but I will keep a found memory of her.

I was incredibly lucky to have Janet as a dietetic internship mentor in 2008 and the privilege to continue working with Janet as a fellow dietitian at the Regional until her retirement. Janet was admired by us all. She took interns under her wing and guided them long enough to watch them fly. She was supportive to all of her coworkers, always lending a hand, sharing her wisdom and providing comfort and encouragement as we found our own way in the work place. I cannot think of anyone who better defines “all encompassing love”. If the world had more Janets, it would be glowing with love. I will miss you greatly, Janet!! Hugs and love to Alan and his family❤️

So sorry to hear of the loss of Janet. We worked together for decades on Pediatrics and the clinic. We shared a love of travel, genealogy and all things dog. I can literally say I walked miles in her shoes on my last trip to Europe as she generously gave me a pair of beautiful walking shoes that did not quite work for her. Janet loved Cambridge and I loved Oxford but we agreed they were both the best!
She will be missed.

Janet went above and beyond to make me feel included back when I was the only celiac at camp. I remember her stopping in Norton at a small GF bakery on her way to camp and surprising me with a bag of goodies. She also used to come prepared to all my appointments with recipes she'd clipped out, new gluten free snack samples and reassurance for my mother that I would one day enjoy the taste of broccoli. Janet was always on my side. Serengetti got kids in a way not many healthcare workers don't and I feel so lucky to have had her on my team at camp and in the real world!

I am so sad to hear that Janet has died. In recent years, she was my favourite online Scrabble buddy. We first met as young girls in Ontario in Brownies or Girl Guides. We attended highschool together and were at University of Western Ontario at the same time. My husband and I enjoyed visiting her in Saint John many years ago. She treated us to a great salmon dinner and wonderful hospitality. The farting dalmation was great entertainment. I'm thankful we were able to keep in touch across the country over the years. The news of Janet’s passing hit hard in this home. I did my MEd with Janet (when I was pregnant with my son) and she became our Christmas Eve miracle as my 5 year old son then became one of her little Diabetes patients. She was also my camp supervisor and mentor as she supported me to become a Diabetes Educator. More than everything, Janet always extended herself as a trusted confident and friend. My heart aches all her family and friends. I will most certainly support her Camp Fund. Beautiful gift of life, love and laughter for children with Diabetes.
