I am saddened by Bill's passing. I first met Bill when he was Executive Director of the NB Salmon Association. Many times we found ourselves on the same side of the discussion. I thought, there is a guy I should keep as a friend. And we did. We reconnected when he was Deputy Minister of Energy since I had changed from the fishery to energy...wind farms. This was another common interest. Bill always was a clear thinker and always well ahead of the others. I will miss Bill's intellect and insights. He was always there for a chat.
May your memories of Bill and the love of your family give you strength in the years ahead.

It was a shock and upsetting to see the news of Bill’s unexpected passing. What a significant loss to his family and our community and way too soon. Most sincere condolences to Cathy and Micah, and to Mac, and the rest of the family. I have known Bill and his brother Mac from high school and university days, and we’ve had many good times together. I was lucky enough over the years to continue to see and chat with Bill on a professional basis and although our politics were never in sync we still connected. Bill was such a resource of information; he knew who you needed to know and how to get things done. I will miss him and feel very fortunate to have known him. Sorry I am out of the country and cannot attend his funeral. May this fine soul rest in peace.

Cathy,
I am saddened at Bill’s passing in a way that is hard for me to define.
I first met Bill in the late 1970’s when he was working to support Gerry Merrithew and very much enjoyed his energy and enthusiasm for a number of years as we worked on our mutual political passions.
In early 2000 Bill became my boss when he was appointed Deputy Minister of the Department of Investment and Exports. His passion for the betterment of our Province was will understood by all who then followed his leadership. Following this, he became Deputy Minister in the newly created Department of Energy and lead policy development for both renewable development adoption and the opening up of our electricity export opportunities in newly evolving competitive international markets. Later, when I took over the leadership of the Energy Department, Bill was always there and ready to offer context, encouragement and support.
He was a true gentleman and as a “political guy” had no personal agenda except to do whatever he could to make his city and his province a better place.
My condolences to you and your family,
Doug Holt

Just heard the news from my sister, Jane, in Saint John. I’m shocked and am totally off guard as Bill was a very good friend from high school. We attended Saint Mary’s together, took a memorable 3 week trip driving a camper across the country, came back to Halifax and rented a home there until Bill moved back to SJ. He and his brother Mac were my good friends during those early years. We had some very good times together.
Bill was always there for my family through good times and troubled times. He never missed showing up at any events where the Bardsley’s were involved. Guess I could say that Bill was as close to my Saint John family as any sibling.
This truly hurts however, my good memories will and are forever.
To Bill’s family, my wife Bea and I wish you all the very best at this most difficult time. May we all be thankful for the time spent with Bill.
RIP our very good friend.

Our hearts are aching. Over the last year we called on you and you answered without question. You reviewed our situation and was there to offer advice, encouragement and support. (also to mention become my personal therapist). You were fair and saw everything from a common person’s perspective. You always pointed out that everything would be okay. I wondered why I didn’t hear back from you on Thursday. Then the breaking news – “someone so happy and loving is gone”. Shocked!!! You need to know as I always told you, we appreciate all of your help and are hopelessly saddened for all you left behind. The world just lost one of the best. My condolences to all of your family. Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Bill. Bill was involved in many community initiatives along the southern coastline of New Brunswick. I enjoyed those late day telephone calls with Bill, who always had a common sense approach and to do what was best for the area. His contact list was a jammed packed as his calendar, a symbol of how well contacted he was throughout the province. Bill loved "the game" of politics but never so much that colors prevent good dialogue and mutual interest on matters. Election time was as important to him as any sports playoffs and we would often discuss the project outcomes. To Cathy & Micah, though we have never met, Bill would often mention his family in meetings, reflecting the great love he had for his family. Bill will be missed.
